    mooloolaba tuesday-SPOTTIES!

well well well.... what a difference a day can make. after yesterday, i went out today with low expectations to say the least! i didnt get on the water til 6.30 and made the run down to currumundi. fished the bottom for half an hour or so and didnt get a touch. i noticed a few patches of birds work further south so i went to investigate. by the time i got down there the few birds had turned into hundreds. there was small schools of tiny baitfish all over the place, but no fish breaking the surface. BUT just under the surface thousands of spotties busting up the bait. the half hour that followed is the stuff dreams are made of i got my mag limit of 5 within the first 20 mins, then dropped down to 3kg to have some fun.

the birds down there were the only birds i saw all morning and they were all in the one area. no other boats in the area so i had them all to myself. all good size fish as well. smallest was 78cm's, but most were over 85cm.

YAY Jeffo! Mate I'm glad you got onto them, you've been trying with no luck for too long
I'd agree with your comment about "the kinda stuff dreams are made of", in fact I dreamt about it last night!
Hopefully its the start of a good season (late as it is) up that way.

Things can only get better with the new restrictions on netting.

Sooooooooooo wish I was out there with you ggrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Sometimes you wish there were a few other boats about just so someone could see you catchin' 'em.
    Way to go mate !!!!!!!!!

Who knows maybe they will invade Moreton Bay soon ???

Good job Jeffo , I had the same thing at fraser 1 day i saw the birds but no surface action, so i dropped a slug to the bottom in about 10 - 15 mtrs of water and cranked it up then Bang! i was on. Its the best feeling when u realise the water underneath u is full of spotties, people seem to get sick of hearing about macs, but i tell ya they are the most fun to catch.

Was it blowing northerly up there? what were the conditions like?

it was a bit lumpy but pretty good. the spotties werent down deep, with polarised glasses i could see them every where. everynow and then there would be a tail cutting through the water. i was cranking the slugs as soon as they hit the water. its an awsome sight seeing 3 or 4 bow waves behind a slug that is going as fast as my little arm could wind!

Ha Haaa! Jeffo, Good on you.
I'm guessing all is good and right with the world at the moment.
I think DC is on the money when he called it a late season. My old man caught a tailor in early Dec in Northern NSW that was still full with roe when he cleaned it. Obviously the tailor didn't read the DPI website that says she was supposed to be up at Fraser in between Waddy Pt and Indian Head in August or September. This together with the dissapointment apparent from the mack mayhem post, seems to be saying the season is lagged a couple of months this year.
Looking forward to photos with the wrong date on them.
    Cheers,
    Jeff
