Oh yeah!
That's right!
COBE! You little ripper. Fortunately my deckie didn't get a pic of me riding it round the boat Happy Gilmore style - it'd be pretty hard to live that down!
Wasn't a huge one, but I'm on the board. Caught my 2nd about 10 mins later and hooked a 3rd which was much bigger but spat the hooks at the boat, straightening 2 of them in the process.
We left from Bribie at 4am - already 15-20 cars and trailers in the carpark.
Wind was a solid 15-20 with shabby 1-1.5m NE slop across the bay. Pic shows the ordinary looking start to the day. By 10am the clouds had burnt off for the most part and the wind and swell cleaned right up. About .5m swell from ENE and 5kn ENE wind.
Went straight to our favourite beacon. Scored half a dozen macks to 65cm from about 5am on pillies.
High tide about 11am and the sh*t hit the fan. Yellowtail Kings, cobes, turtles, dolphins, batfish, crabs and of course some pretty sizable grinners all either caught or within spitting distance of the boat. Fish were coming out of nowhere.
By about 12.15pm tide had turned and action died off.
All up we boated 2 cobes each which means I can now officially cross it off my list.
Another bloody good day with blenty of fillets in the freezer and not alot of other boats around.
Didn't need to go outside and the weather helped make that decision for us but will look to get out to the 50 & 100m lines on Monday if the weather holds.
Congrats on your first Cobe mate - I was a happy chappy when I recently got mine. It's a good feeling!
From what I have heard they have been thick this season - hoping to get out tomorrow for another go myself!
Cheers
Steve.
Well done, it's always a good feeling to get the first of a species that you have set out to target. Now hook yourself up to a 25kg plus Cobe and stretch those arms !
Cheers Phill
