Hi Folks...Jimmy and i set out this morning from Manly Boat harbour at 6am for an assult on the mackerel population over at the 4 beacons.
Conditions were a little bumpy going over but by 11am the bay had glassed over.......Jimmy gets the first and only mackerel for the day...a 65cm schoolie.
We tried floating baits and cast lures but the fish were just not on the chew at our particular beacon until lunch time when my rod bucked over and i was into a good fish.......The beast was about to spool me so i applied extra drag and guess what the fish won the fight.......oh well time for another bait........5 minutes latter i was on again and this time i was ready with 300 metres of line and a brand new live fibre rod.........200 metres peeled of my screaming reel before i was able to slow the fish down........the weight on the loaded rod was great but i had the 6 kilo drag set properly and was set for a long fight.......The fish headed around the anchor line but with Jimmy's help we managed to get the line free before the next run........arms aching by now as its 20 minutes and still no sign of the fish surfacing........I was prepared to call it a Cobia or at least thats what i was hoping for..lol.
Just lucky it headed south away from the beacon or i would have lost it for sure..........finally after alot of determination i brought the fine looking specimen to the surface and Jimmy made sure that gaff went in hard...bingo a nice 12 Kilo Tuna comes aboard........boy was i pleased with 12 kilo of fish on 6 Kilo line.
We then headed over to the M8 Beacon to try for some more macks but no luck so headed back home around 2pm.......flat sea all the way home........what more could you ask for......top day to be out on the water i reckon.
Cheers Brent

No problem Shane.......Sorry you caught the wrong bites in the river Friday mate....(CAN'T HANDLE THOSE MOZZIES TO WELL MYSELF)..Will have to do a trip out to the beacons with ya soon.
Cheers Brent
Jeff 2 cans wasn't enough mate...needed a 6 pack to put back all the fluids i lost..lol
Top fish Brent, there were no bluefin in the top of the bay all mactuna, they are one never say die fish! you will have to try Micks recipe, you should get some good meals from that one cheers rob
top fish Brent How'd the fuel consumption go. got my first decent one this week also, you might of seen the report. might be too late but done in cutlets, singe each side on a hot plate for 20 - 30 secs, and dip in soy sauce/ teriyaki/ sweet chilli, real nice Jaybee im surprised you arent suggesting the raw option?
Hi Sharkbait.....just a guess at this stage but my fuel gauge is reading still three quaters full which if correct the 90 burnt 30 litres.......i will know next time i fuel up but i would say thats good fuel economy for a 90hp 2 stroke motor.(trimmed to the max)
From Manly to the 4 beacons on a flat sea was a 30 minute run at 4500 rpm but im sure that would increase in choppy water.
The haines handled the lumpy morning conditions fine but an extra metre in length would make for an even better ride i reckon.
Just have to choose the best weather conditions to cross the bay and like they say if in doubt don't venture out !!
Cheers Brent
