Straddie....ANZAC holiday long weekend.

Well, as already stated in the "Going Fishing" section last week, I had a planned trip to Stradbroke Island this past weekend.

In total, a group of about 13 of us went over and camped from Friday to Monday.

Overall it was a great weekend with absolutely sterling weather. Looking out from Main Beach was just glass....just amazing.

Had a bonfire that stood erected at about 2.5m on Sunday night, and when lit, burned somewhere around 4.5m. We reckon aliens were being guided in to land by it. Drank shitloads each night and day (total of about 103 litres of beer amongst 7 guys, over three days - really, really dumb thing to do), and I think I'm still feeling the effects of it.

Didn't really get that much fishing done as I was usually too inebriated, but for those interested, there was a lot of small dart hanging around. We fished several different gutters, all very close to the waterline (within 15m) and we just got dart, after dart after dart. There were a few whiting and bream taken from one particular gutter, but very few and far between. Pippies were our bait of choice due to convenience.

Interestingly, from our campsite up behind the dunes, we could see something of decent size ust behind the breakers chopping at the surface. The school didn't seem to move along much, always stayed in the same area. We saw them on a few occasions. The mind ponders.

Havn't got photos at the moment, but will probably add them later. Had some good snaps.

Sounds like a good weekend ben LOL! [smiley=dizzy.gif] [smiley=dizzy.gif] [smiley=drunk.gif] [smiley=drunk.gif] Thats a fair bit of alcohol consumed lol! So when you go around to the fishing was it alright coz i might be heading down there soon with two mates cause we get free trips there coz of his parents and we go to straddy for a week and stay with his auntie that lives there! We usually fish off the jetty and around there though! Have you heard of anything else being caught??

Mate generally all the surf fishing is alright, as long as you find a good gutter, bank or channel etc. Fresh bait is definately the go. Worms proved a little scarce at the spots we tried (numerous up and down Main Beach). However, fresh pippies were in plague proportions and they seemed to get the fish in the mood. REgardless of size, was still good fun fishing with no shortage of bites and hookups.

I really couldn't report on anything from the jetty as I didn't see anyone fishing around that area and I was only there for like a few minutes on the way through. In the past I've never had much consistent luck from that jetty.

When are you looking at heading down? The barge leaves from just near my joint - would be good to catch up for a drink or something.

Thanks for that ben!!! We usually head down there at around mid may to early june cause his parents work for qantas or something like that and we fly there for about 10$$$ I would be keen to catch up for some drinks! Will keep you informed of when and what i am doing!! Cheers Mate!
