Since the others can't be bothered to write up the trip - looks like it's left to me.
Ben, Rob and I left Cleveland at about 5:30 for a pretty calm but freezing cold run across the bay to the bar. Bit choppy in the shallows on the way out but not too bad. Couldn't find any livies so straight to the Wave Rider bouy in conditions of about 10 knots SW and .5m seas.
One other boat doing it tough at the boy but we got straight onto the fish with the Dolphins coming on board steadily. Of course I caught the most and the biggest - seriously - before we decided to head off. It was getting a bit crowded with 6 boats working the boy including Tom Cat charters with 14 anglers on board.
Headed wider for the pearlie grounds - bloody deep with a pretty rip roaring current. No fish on first run, so with 250 metres of line out the back I decide to pull in. Wind for 10 secs solid and stop to get a better position only to get hit by a 3kg pearlie. He must have been 20-30m of the bottom. Kept the runs going and pearlies and black spot piggies came in at regular intervals. Unusually bigger baits were working - which sutied me fine as Rob and Ben were using multi hook smaller rigs. Needless to say I caught the most and the biggest again.
By this time conditions we getting glassy so headed in for more dolphin fun. Landed a couple more before they wouldn't touch our old/ugly/mangled baits. Ben decided to bottom bash and pulled in a mixed bag before hitting the jackpot with the big AJ. Show them out it was hooked Rob.
Headed in for a long but unbelievably flat trip home.
Interestingly Tom Cat was back at the bouy on our return. I'm just wondering how many dolphins they took that day and how many days they hit the bouy. Oh well it's only fishing I guess.
