    Gold Coast Sunday

Hit the Seaway at 6am and headed for the parking lot. Saw the Mermaid lot was full up so headed for Palm. Four hours (fishing livies and small pilly) without a run, although the kids had heaps of fun with some of the biggest yakkas I've ever seen. Nobody else seemed to be catching anything except the odd turtle.

Decided to test my new input on the Furuno and headed for Gravel Patch. Lots of small reefies and a couple of takes on bottom rig (fished just off) that gave a fair tussle and then headed for the bottom with resultant snag and break-offs.

Headed for Mermaid (which by now had only 2 boats fishing) and hit a school of tailor on the way. Bagged 8 takers and numerous undersize. Thought Mermaid may be as much a dead loss as Palm.....now proven wrong in Jamie's thread:-( so went to Jews which was showing plenty of fish on sounder.
The fish must've been parrot. Bait lasted about 20 seconds so switched to cuttle and that lasted about 5 seconds longer. Two more thumpers that took me to the bottom and snagged me and then home.

Not much "sport" for me, but a lovely day, good company with my mate in the other boat, and the colours of the reefies were all new to me and the missus and kids. They were kept busy with the bait rods and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The pictures are what fishing is all about as far as I'm concerned.

Sounds like the 'Spotties' are starting to thin out a little down the Goldie.

    Cheers Craigie.

She's 4 years old mate (the tinny;-) but the deckies keep her as new.

I think the spotties are still as thick on the ground, they just seem to be moving around a bit........we drove straight past the buggers! :-) Nice to see someone got to 'em though.

Yeah mate. I warned the little bugger but he just *had to* have a photo with it. I think he left his socks on in case it fell on his foot :-)

You're right about the variety. We caught 12 different kinds of fish and 5 of 'em weren't even in Grants. I think the juveniles must change colour frequently?

    cheers

i was out early sunday the spots where at palmy earlier like sun up. then moved to mermaid and further up the coast.
they were as thick as ants in the water. when i pulled the pin at 10ish i run through probably 3 or 4 schools on the way back to the sea way.

trick is to get there early, but with kids and TOP deckies i know u have to start later
    then it realy gets ughly

    Hi Cloud 9

I don't know if it's just the luck of the draw sometimes. Last week saw us go first to the 24 fathom for a nil and we didn't hit Palm till 10.00. We got into the spotties straight away and by 12 it had stopped completely, despite them circling the boat. It fired up again about 2.00.

Sunrise this Sunday more or less coincided with slack water and saw them feeding whereas last week saw them off the feed at slack. Admitted, one was low and mid day and one was high and sunrise. There's any number of calculations to be made from experience but in my case, when I calculate the best time/state of tide, it's always too bloody rough to get offhore anyway! :-)

With regards to the deckie. If she has the left leg outta the bed when I wake, I fish the left side of the boat. Right leg outta the right side, I fish the the right side of the boat. One leg outta each side and I don't go fishing. ;-)

    cheers
