Can't help ya with that one champ, but I'd suggest maybe calling a bait and tackle store up that way and having a bit of a chat to them about what's been caught, the weed and whatever else you want to know. Let em know you'll be comming up soon, they should give you some local info.
Ben
I just had a look at the local report and no mention of weed. This doesn't necessarily mean there's none though
I'll ask around a bit today and see if I can find someone who's just got back.
I'm doing my annual pilgramage in the last week of August

Here's an excerpt (phew - big word this early in the day) from a local report today.
(no update on the weed as yet)The surf beach of Fraser Island has seen some good dart, bream and tarwhine hitting the creel mainly from around Indian Head and quality sand whiting at Yidney Rocks.
Cheers,
Tony
Brain just kicked in....
We've mainly been getting southerly winds so I should hope the surf beaches will be pretty clear of weed - The other good news is that we are experiencing a cold snap at the moment which might bring the tailor on with any luck (or in my case I'm hoping to bag a snapper or three next week)
I just tried to call Fishermans Corner to check but the #@$% phone is engaged - here's their number

Weed or no weed you're still going Saturday morning, and there is nothing you do about the weed anyway, cept get pissed off.
So the only difference with knowing is, whether you get pissed off before you go or when you get there.
Last year was pretty bad all along the eastern side, so we ventured up to Orchid Beach, not much weed up there and we even caught some fish.
welll said Seahunt. Ditto !

Well, if there's weed there, then I guess you could always fall back on plan B...have a tinnie or two or three.
Morlers
I've found the weed directly related to the wind.
During the Toyota Fraser Expo comp we had SE winds and as a result there was weed but mainly along the northern end of beaches.
At the far southern end the weed was nil.
Westerlies have hit in the last week so things will change.
You can usually get around the weed by moving - keep looking and you'll find clear water.
The type of weed is also a consideration - snot weed usually moves quickly, it's the red or stringy stuff that hangs around for weeks.
