Pumping jetty last night

Overlooking all the hoo-ha about who was doing what with their catches, it was obvious that fish were being caught from the pumping jetty. So we decided to go and check it out for ourselves. JB, brad_watts, myself and my old man hit the jetty at 5pm only to find it absolutely packed. At least 150 people standing shoulder-to-shoulder (you could count the Aussies on one hand ). So we squeezed into a spot and began fishing. The tailor came on the chew just after sunset and were getting absolutely slaughtered up until the tide change around 6:30pm. The wind picked up a bit around the change which made it hard for our crew, who, except Dad, brought shorter spinning rods - casting became a problem.
Overall, 10 tailor between us (my contribution = 0 as I decided to avoid the crowd and fish north Tip: don't fish the northern side ) Oh well, we'll know what to expect and what to bring

Ill be giving mine to the olds and they will more than likely be smoking them whole, It was great fun out there. Some times your bait wouldnt even hit the bottom and youd be on. It was bloody hard getting them onto the jetty on 4kg gear with a short flatty combo tho.

Good to see you got a few last night, I bumped in to you last night, but wasnt sure if it was you. plus i was a bit peezed as I had just been busted off again as you were going past.

Managed a half dozen myself. But all around the 55cm mark. All solid fish. The smaller ones were amonst the frenzy of fishos.

I've already eaten mine, fresher the better I'm a fan of tailor, pretty distinct taste, goes well for breakfast dipped in four, fried with a sqeeze of lemon

Dane the north side of the jetty is productive for whiting and bream, the sth side, tailor, the odd whiting, bream and dart, 3/4 the way is a catwalk, out from this is a hole, however you need to be able to cast from the catwalk, when the tailor are on you will bag out within the hour, i give tailor fishing away years ago down on the jetty due to congestion, still like the odd sorty over summer for the whiting, tho, best session (whiting) 3.3 kg of fillets from 36 fish. back then fillets were $33 a kg in woolies.

That was me, I busted off useing 5kg line, as it was half way up to the jetty out off the water. which then sprang back and wraped around the alvey reel.
You should and come and fished with us, we had fair bit of room around us.
