Blue moon Snapper
Had planned a trip to spot x since Thursday night but due to forecast, work and 3 football games and the Tyson fight on Sat night (good fight and 2 out of three isn’t bad) did not go until Sunday arvo.
Conditions where not the best with a light northerly blowing and steadily increasing into the evening which made the trip home a little lumpy. Got to the beacons at about 3:30 pm and took a while to find the bait, once located in the middle of the beacons a few livies where taken and then of to spot x.
Anchored early as there was a big run on, so not much activity until sun started to set and tide picked up, with a few under size squire and a couple of 35-40cm squire released as we where feeling confident on improving the quality.
First fish was 2 pounder just as the sun was setting and fished until 9pm with a couple of 3 pounders and 4 around 4.5 – 5 pound snappery squire landed , 3 good hook ups were lost >, one due to hooks failing, ganged triple strength 6o’s bottom hook straighten …other two spat the hooks…
Fish were caught on livies and squid, tried a new way to present bait which had immediate results and caught all the larger fish.
No real big bangers, but nice eating fish this size….oh yeh caught the world record catfish, estimate he was a meter plus and was very busy with death rolls and tail walking and big runs – this thing had a bad attitude and was not allowed on board received some counselling and was released.
Cheers,
Matt

Nice haul Matt,
Mate I got the GPS the other day and will be collecting a few marks. Will get together soon
Shano will be doing some work to the bow roller soon and i have a few probs with the wiring, but once all done will be keen to go out mate.
If I can even get to hook a snapper I will be happy, let alone land one
Nice fish Matt, and catch ya soon mate.
cheers

Great fish Matt! Hopinjg to get out thursday or friday depending on what the wind really does (versus what the forecast says!!) Are your livies from any particular one of the 4 beacons, or are you jigging all of them up close? Also, anyone know if there's any action around the 4 beacons at this time of year?

Nice fish Matt. Hope you made another appointment with that catfish. Initial counselling can raise issues that the fish isn't yet able to handle ;-)
When folk on here talk of the 4 beacons, do they mean what I call the coffee pots at the Brizzy river channel? I've never scored a baitfish on any of 'em.
cheers

Re: Blue moon Snapper
Usually the 4 beacons refer to the shipping channel markers off the top end of Moreton - closer to tangalooma. (at least thats what i call the 4 beacons)

Re: Blue moon Snapper
Actually there are still 4 beacons there, just spread out more then they used to be.
two red close together, with a cardinal twoards the west and a green a little further north.
There are usually shit load of bait, mainly yakkas, hanging around, not right on the beacon usually 30m or so off, the green always seems to have bait hanging around.
During summer the batfish also gather for a yearly orgy around the reds.
Load up and quick trip to the neilsen or north to bulwer.
you never no whats lurking down around these beacons.
From the two reds in towards moreton, during summer there usually plenty of mac tuna to play with.
By the way matt good catch of squabblies there.

Thanks Guys....Kev trying not to keep 2nd appointment with catfish as we have already penetrated a deep nerve that sent him off , he will just need to deal with it....
Lawry, the other guys have got the go on the beacons, just drift around till you see them on the sounder and jig away.

Re: Blue moon Snapper
Matt,
A few weeks ago I mentioned on a post that I offered to have a session now that you were boatless (being the nice guy I am). Since then, all I have read is about your many sessions out on the bay nailing more nobbies than the rest of us are getting in throwbacks.
Bugga,, now I can't extend the offer because you seem to have no problems in getting a ride, and even more so, it would just look like I was trying to steal your inside info. Have a few bad sessions, and then were still up for a trip out there.
Cheech
Start to have average results, and I won't feel so

Re: Blue moon Snapper
Hey Cheech,
Mate do I detect some bad fibes?? ???
Sorry I missed your offer for a trip, didn’t see it. I have been lucky with some mates with a spare spot on board, will try to catch less and I have had plenty of runs with no results like everyone else, but would be happy to come for a ride and catch nothing if it makes you feel better….
I have only had 3 trips in the past 2 months, just lucky they all produced fish.
Cheers,
Matt
