Tempest Aug8:Wind,Whales & Catch Of The Day
Crewed for new Ausfish Friend Peterbo3,aboard his Lightning CC. As mentioned by Snappa earlier, weather was sh*t.I really do think the BOM has 2 chocolate wheels to determine the weather. The forecasted 10-15kn must have been a good 25kn,and as cold as cherries. [smiley=wreck.gif]Didn't get to take the winter woolies off all day.
Started the morning by heading out wide,to find Snappa, only to find that they were heading back in a little closer.Even closer in,the current at DT was inexcess of 3kns,and was having trouble getting anywhere near the bottom with 2x10 balls.
Move 3 was half way back in,fishing along side a number of other boats, including a couple of charter boats.Still no fish!
Final move was back into Shallow Tempest, where we began to have a show of fish on the sounder.
First drop was a 3kg parrot, followed by a 2 kg(?) squire by Peterbo3.However after this the day turned for the worse again with undersize flathead, undersize coronation trout, undersize rosy jobfish, scorpion cod,one wondering luderick ,and a bucket full of undersize grassy sweetlip.
In the end, using a 3 hook rigswith 4/0 hooks, was catching grassies 2 at a time, the second that baits where within 10 metres of the bottom >.
The big excitement of the day was seeing a number of whales jumping clear out the the water, nearby to us.Grabbed the camera, but sadly they didn't want to perform on cue.
Trip home was a long slog, punching through the "washing machine" type conditions.
Finally drawing within 4 km or so of Scarborough, came accross a stranded tinny, close to being run over by the Combie Trader. [smiley=smash.gif]. Guy had his V-sheet out,but I would doubt he was visible to the Trader in the darkening conditons.
Guy had his wife and teenage daughter in the tinny with him,and made some excuse about the motor not wanting to start,so we towed him back into the ramp.
Apparently the motor wouldn't start...think it was something to do with some fool not taking enough fuel with him ![smiley=thumbsdown.gif] [smiley=hammer.gif] [smiley=hammer.gif]
Peterbo3 jokingly told him that Channel 9 would interview him tomorrow about his experience, and he just shrugged and said it wouldn't be the first time !! [smiley=thumbsdown.gif] [smiley=thumbsdown.gif] Mmmm, did we do the right thing?? Maybe leaving him there would have saved other the time and expense of saving his arse again?
Back at the ramp ,guy puts his boat onto his trailer, and with 2 toots of his horn drove off, without even the offer of carton of refreshments for Peterbo3 for his considerate help and time.
Mmm..maybe the guy owned a PWC in his younger days!
Even after all this, had a great day out on the water with Peter. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] [smiley=2thumbsup.gif].He is a scholar and a gentleman, and great company, and I enjoyed immensely fishing about Aquarius.
Many thx!

CATCH OF THE DAY!

Re: Tempest Aug8:Wind,Whales & Catch Of The Da
Sounds like you guys had an alright day out, regardless of fish caught. Lol at the dude and his tinnie. He isn't the first and certainly won't be the last. Unfortunately, that applies to whatever caused his breakdown and his behaviour back at the ramp. Should have arranged a transaction before giving him a tow rope out there.

Peewee
Hard to tell cause it's a bit dark but the parrot looks like a blue barred version. Rare to catch on the rod. (did it have a plate instead of incisor teeth.
Glad we weren't the only ones to get beaten up on Sunday.

Les,,, like touchy said, you know you did the right thing, and from what I have picked up on previous posts, you know that you would give that very same bloke a tow in next week if you saw him out there again. Is a good thing that there are good blokes out there. And take comfort in saving his passengers. Not their fault.

Well, all the credit for the good samaritan act must go to Peterbo3.I was just the lucky passenger.
Like I said before,he is a gentleman [smiley=thumbsup.gif] and a real credit to the boating fraternity.
