SNAPPA'S....weekend at D/I.
I was invited to accompany “opimax” for a red emperor safari to double island with me having great expectation to slaughter the red population..
The teams one was “opimax” myself [snappa] and the NEW found red emperor legend Brad. The one and the same from the front cover of this months “BUSH and BEACH”. Team two was reefy and his dad who were going to meet us up at D/I.
Team one left Narangba at 5.30 pm and arrived at our pre determined spot at 7.30 to sit down to a couple of beers [coke for me] and large “T- bone” steak and of course 2 large garlic breads…we all had some, so it wasn’t much of a problem later that nite in the cabin of the boat ???
On the way up we could see a lot of lighting over Double Island and agreed by the time we get there all would be over. Maybe ????
Phone call to find out where reefy was and a short hours waits for them to arrive. I finally got to meet reefy [Greg] and his dad [terry]. We then drove up the beach to D/I. blow.
No problems for us as lee had gained some experience from his last trip and of course reefy and his dad, years behind them towing their boat to D/I.
Arrive at the beach launch site and talk … then off to bed.
Pic 1 shows lee “opimax” emerging from down under on Saturday morning after raining or should I say buckets during the nite.

Pic 3 .. team ones catch … not much when considering the hours on the water but I must say Saturdays weather was not good and we had to fish in close to rainbow where the only thing caught were bait fish.

. I MUST MENTION THAT I HAD A GREAT TIME AND HOPE to GET INVITED IN THE FUTURE
They were saying all weekend how unlucky it was “the weather” and “the fishing”, all the time looking at me ?????

bad luck snappa, the weather has been strange the last week with all those offshore storms. im a keen red hunter as well, i fished for them professionaly out of innisfail for 6 years. ive managed a few 15 kilos while chasing nobbies south of di but ive watched with interest those di boys catches, hope you get another shot at them soon...foxy

Great post snappa. I expect amongst a lot of us that have been following your exploits, it was with great expectation that I looked out for a post of your weekend.
I think what is most impressive is that being a proven producer, you have taken your current bad run with such good humour and humility. Would be easy to get peeeed off.
Those of us that fish the bay, we are use to sessions of not much. I fished from 3pm till midnight on Saturday in the bay and all I had to show for it was one lousy bream (about 34cm so a good size, just not the right quantity)
Anyway,,, will await the next chapter.
