    Pin Saturday 4th September

    Hi folks,
Went out in a mates boat to troll some hard bodied lures around for a flathead or 3.
Launched from Cabbage tree point around 6am and set out for the red markers around the bottom of Russell island.
Low tide and the lures barely hit the water before the mate pulled in a small flattie.
We had a quiet time until noon when the tide was close to full and then we started boating a few more.
Total catch for the 5 hours we where out was 5 flatties to 44cm and 1 small whitting.
Weed was bad when the tide was running but as we got closer to the 1pm high things settled down.
Might have another crack at the flatties next weekend if the wind gets up otherwise i will be hunting those small snapper over at Peel with soft plastics.
Hope you all had a great weekend out on the water and brought home a bonus of fresh fish.
    Cheers Brent

Went out with Touchy for a go at some of those Pin Flatties. We headed out early to fish the 6.30am low along Kalinga Bank. We did ok for a while with 4 beam and one flattie. Fred got the flattie on a soft plastic, and the rest were on pillies.

Headed off to Cobby for a whiting or 2 and stopped along the way to flick a few plastics. Now I have never been much of a fan. Had only caught keepers whilst trolling and never flicking, so was a bit sceptical. Gave it a go anyway, and came up with a flattie. Maybe need to rethink them.

Bumped into Bungie just before we were about to anchour up and move to a new spot. Good to put a face to another ausfish member.

Then I watched Touchy pull in 5 whiting to my nill. Oh well. Can't complain as I did come home with 3 bream, 1 flattie, and 1 34cm gar (gee they are small, though I am led to believe that 34cm is a big one). So 12 fish between us and back at the ramp at 1.00pm. Not bad.

I was not using enough weight to compensate for the current you get there. These things you pick up by fishing with the really experienced. Thanks for the tips Fred.

Does anyone know what species of sandfly-from-hell inhabits Cobby Cobby passage ? We had been eaten alive before (last summer) but we were shocked to find them still there on Saturday.

I guess the plus is that they ensure that only the crazy keen
    will ever venture there twice.

In summer you can get thos big mother sand flies that bite like hell. But on the weekend they were midgies. Annoying little things that are only about 2mm long.

There is a simple answer,,, Bushman. You get it at Chemists. It contains Deet. According to the experts, it is the majic ingredient. I don't know about that, but it does seem to work.

Good to see the whiting starting to move in the cobby can only get better with the warmer weather (night time & soldier crabs should see some nice fish in the esky)Pity my deckie had his good clothes on & wouldn't hop out (at 05:00 am) & get some crabs (crikey its hard to get good deckies these days )good mixed feed was in the esky for our early morning effort I thought & Cheech I hope a couple of those spots will come in handy for you later,A tip with the midges the best stuff I have found is a mixture of A.small bot of Dettol. B small bot of Rid C small bot of baby oil,put half of each into a spray bottle(like the cleaners use)just give it a shake before spraying & you will not have a prob with anything that flys or bites,Mozzies, sandflies, horseflys ect,I even spray it around the base of my tent when camping if there is an ant prob its cheap & you can just keep topping up the spray bot as it gets a bit low it is a permanent fixture in my boat.Cheers Touchy.><> ><> ><>.
