    Fraser

HEaded up to Fraser Island last saturday and camped at WAddy Point for the week.
First night we managed to get in some fishing before the weed came in and managed some nice tailor.
Next day the weed was absolutely everywhere except Ngala Rocks so we fished there for the next three days and managed some nice tailor. Even saw one guy catch a bonefish on a tialor rig, yep a bone fish . Not a whiting not a tailor.
My brother even managed a small grassy sweetlip in the middle of the day while fish for whiting in the same area.
Finally the weed started to clear so we found a nice clean gutter and caught some solida tilor one monring with ym borther have a 70-80 cm tailro throw the hooks on his 85 g raider metres from the beach.
Sean (Fincho) then joined our faimly and the following day in the middle of the day he nailed a great 5 lb tailor on a radier, with myself and my brother caticching a good one each, right in the middle of the day was really weird.
So with the weed clearing was time to target some big fish. SO armed with ganed 6/0's and filelts of tialor on mednesday morning i nailed my best 2 tailor so far going 57 cm and 55cm.
The tailor went off the chew, so threw a pilly in clsoe hoping for a flatty and managed a 30lb shovel nose . Great fun but was hoping for a fish haha.
Then went back down to Ngala for a bit more whiting fishing. Sean was the only one getting bites jsut in clsoe so i though I'd try the same. Threw my worm in close with small whiting hook. Left it for ages before finally getting the old tap tap tap from the whiting, rod bent, thought "this is a nice whiting" set the hooks when ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, managed to keep him clear of the rocks, got him in close when he took off down the beach again. I was thinking to myself "Finally i got a jewwy". Worked him back in and ZZZZZZZZZZZ again i was thinking what the hell is this. His fin came out and i thought o no shovel nose, but i thought it might have been a bit thin. well i worked him in clsoe when i finally got my first glimpse of him. Now i don't care what you say noone has ever had a rush of adrenlin this big hahah, I've seen a bloody PERMIT, OR SNUB NOSED DART, or OYSTERCRACKER or whatever you want to call it of all thigns in the waves. FInally beached him, and after being estimated around 5lb, and after some quick photos i relaeased him to fight another day. BOy was it a good feeling eltting that fella go.
So from Ngala Rocks there were some surprise captures(sweetlip, bone fish, oystercracker).
Following day the rocks opened and we maanged 19 very nice sized tialor off the rocks. Best going 57 cm.
Then yesterday (my BDAY) went out early and jsut using pillies this time i managed my two best ever tyailor 63cm and 60cm. Then out to the rocks again where the fishing was rather slow. MAnaged 3 or 4 tailor. But there was some great views with several whales coming with 150m of the rocks, turtles and amnta rays cruisng by, and seeing a few metre long bronze whaler surf downa a wave right infront of us with fin out and everything(i think he thought he was a dolphin).
Then alst night on goes the old tailor fillet again and managed a nice 60cm tailor great way to finsh my bday and the trip to fraser.
SO was a great week with many quality fish. Everyone caught a fair few, Fincho easily caught the biggest on lure.
Great week for him considering he caught his first ever tailor, along with aobut 30 or 40 others.
Surpise captures made the trip a reall thrill.
I CANT BELIEVE I CAUGHT A PERMIT hahah.
ANd yeah great that the weed was fishable and at times non present.
    Cheers,
    Jackash.
I'm getting good at the long report hahah its the fact that i actually ahve some fish to write about now. The pics will come tomrrow or the next day. CAnt wait to see the pic of my PERMIT.

    Jackash.

Us flyfisherman are always interested in reports of Bonefish and Snubbies. I look forward to seeing some pics.

A few of the Ausfish flyfisherman had a Meet & Greet at Hervey Bay this weekend. Very quite and we didn't see any Golden Trevally on the flats.

    Thanks for the report.

    Wes

P.S. Some amazing reports coming in from Cape York of lot of Snubbies caught on floating crab flies.

Jackash (asho) couldnt post the pics so he sent them to me. Out of all of us asho had the best trip and consistently caught monster fish. Attached a photo of ashos best tailor for the trip, was 63cm and asho was f#@kin pumped.

    Re: Fraser

Got a big one of those suckers over on straddie a few years back fishing for swallowtail. Probably one of the best fights I have had off the beach.

Just cast out and got a nice bump bite, this is a better darty I called as I struck and the rod loaded up, then whack zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz otoh I dont think this is a darty. Big ray went through the mind but this guy just kept running down the gutter then back again and then a second time. Got it the break four times seeing this big yellow fin break the surface with my ol mate laughing his guts out as each time it just powered back out like it had just joined in the fight.

Switched arms a couple of times and had the offsider slip a much needed smoke into my mouth halfway through, finally beached him after almost 40 minutes on 6kg and I am not sure which of us was tuckered out the most as he took a bit of reviving to get him to swim away and I had had enough of fishing after that
