Mackeral?
Went for a drift around Gilligan's yesterday morning to see if there were any mackeral about yet - not a touch. Tried livies and pillies.
Too much residual swell/chop from Saturday to head further out to the top end beacons and shipping channel. Blew-up NE just after midday so pulled the pin and headed back to Newport. Nice morning on the bay but quite hot and water warm. Wind up until midday was nothing like the forecast.

Re: Mackeral?
Went to Russell heads for the W/E. Saturday fished High Island on the coastal side drifted pillys and liveys for 3 hours am then went to eastern side and anchored amongst the 3 - 5 other boats and bottomed and floated lives and pillys. No one got any Mackerel and we only managed 3 u'size spangos for about another 4hours. Trolled to the end of the Island then back to the heads for a few rums etc.
Sunday and out to Russell Island (yellow zone) drifted a couple of pillys and bottom fished for absolutly zilch, so off to High Island for another session at our favorite spot. Drifted pillys and a livey and bottom fished for the sum total of 2 u'size spangos and 2 reasonable (although poor eating) slatey bream.
The weather for the 2 days was perfect with light NNE winds and smooth seas, the rum and beer was very cold and the tucker was surperb and the company was the Bestest.
What more could a bloke ask for?
cheers baldy

Re: Mackeral?
Hey Greg, yep saw the plate rig go by. Was too lumpy early in the morning for me to venture to much past Skirmish Pt.
Hope to see you "out the front" some time - can feel that mack fever coming on.
