Long time between reports I mean - still have no fish
I took Dad and a Norwegian guest out to Palm Beach reef this morning to get the boat wet again. Trips have been few and far between for me this last six months due to a changed family situation and training like a madman for the Noosa Triathlon.
We hit the ramp at Currumbin about 5:00 (gentlemans hours ) given the low tide was just after three I wanted to make sure there was some water under the keel for the crossing. I decided to scoot up the creek near the RSL to throw the cast net around for some livebait. First three casts I got two tiny herring, thinking that the pickings were liekely to be thin, I cast a little deeper fourth time and was rewarded with a couple of 15cm poddy mullet. I thought that's a bit more like it, took two extra steps deeper and cast quite a bit wider. the net started thumping in my hand and there were swirls of fishy discontent all over the place. and as I dragged the net to shore I was suprised to see seven solid 30+cm mullet in the net. My best haul by far in a single cast. We put them in the livie tank and crossed the bar.
Crossing was easy even at the low water, Currumbin is looking as good as I have seen it these last three years, here is hoping it stays that way for mack season.
Fisihing was uneventful, as it has for the last month or so there was algea on the water - I should know better than to bother with fishing when that crap stuff is around. We got nuthin. Except for one missed hit on the livie that got the heart rate up for a minute we didn't raise a decent fish. Bait and vermin were in plentiful supply.
All in all a good bait gathering trip, a much needed run for the boat - and bugger it - I was Fishin!
Gotta love it.
Cheers
Steve.
