Just back from a relaxing week at Fraser Island.... we stayed at Poyungan Rocks in the beach house there - conveniently overlookling the beach, and being soothed to sleep everynight by the crashing ocean!
Unfortunately, the fishing was crap! Weed! Weed! Weed! We arrived on the Monday, the drive up was trouble free & there was a hell of a lot of weed at Hook Point - to the point where it was almost like a swamp along the southern beach leading up to the ferry. The weed cleared out somewhat as we drove north, but was still infesting all the fishy gutters! The weed was a lot worse then when i was there working at the Expo earlier this year!
We managed a few feeds earlier in the week, XL whiting & Dart, but then the weed got worse and shut down the fishing totally by weeks end.
We didn't see many schools of Tailor working the coast - a few every now and then - but they were beyond casting distance from the beach! Fished at Indian Head when the blokes staying near us had some success the day prior, but the tailor were still too far offshore to have a shot.
Driving home on Saturday was even more depressing, as the weed extended all the way down the coast to Noosa North shore.
There were not even any good gutters in the first few days that we were there - which is hard to imagine along 75 miles of ocean there being no good gutters to hold the fish! Also, there were no pippies the whole way along the beach (up to Indian Head - plenty of those clear jellyfish though that look just like a pippy depression)
Still, a week at Fraser beats working! Spent the remainder of the time checking out the freshwater lakes and leering at the copious amounts of backpackers getting their troopies stuck going over Indian Head!
