    Fishing Bowen

Well the jacks are running up here at the moment. Went the other night with good mate and caught some real nice fish. Caught two solid fish of about 45 in about 15 minutes. Good alternative when the closures are on. (send photos soon)

If you are up this way dont bother with your crab pots I think the crabs have all gone yto th whitsundays for a holiday.

The makeral inshore are pretty scarce with only the odd spotty being caught. Jacks are the go at the moment so if you are up this way get into em

No shortage of Nannygai and trevors either. And as for bream..., well there's only about a million billion of those suckers on the chew. Good fishing days of late.

Pretty ordinary, I used a spotty about 1 million candles wasnt strong enough then my rig system for aiming it in the water broke, but all this time the lines were going off anyway. Its back to the drawing board but I guess thats how it goes. Think Im going to rig up truck spotty on aluminium frame that can be bolted to the boat. No more half arsing aroung going whole hog.

Let you know how I go

Dev, I used to catch a heap of squid in Bowen - around the entrance to the Duckhole seemed to be a good place to get them. Also around the lights on the main jetty in town - also used to get tarpon and trevalley on fly there at night.

Yeah I get the odd one on the jig in there. How did you use to catch them? I have also caught trevally and tarpon in the duckhole. I have also seen some top jacks being caught in there as well. I did try the jetty the other night all we saw were some type of huge fish I couldnt figure out what they were my father in law reckons they might be jew considering it is about 40 foot deep. Try lures but to no avail. Anyway Im keen to get back out for another go

    Thanks for the advice

Huge fish may well be barramundi - I got blitzed by a monster there one night, throwing a huge popper around (asking for trouble I suppose).

Most squid were found when our live baits got munched on - then got the squid jigs out.
