    12 mile to the banks

We left Kawana ramp at 3am and headed for the 12 mile. Fished it till about 9am with only a couple of parrot and a pearlie on board. We lost that much bait to the peckers and under size fish it wasn't funny. Also caught 4 under size reds there around 40cm. Made the call to goto the banks via wave rider boey. Got to the boey and drifted aswell as sent a couple of pillies down to the bottom for a dolfin fish. We didn't even lose a bait so i put a couple of jet heads on and started to troll around. Mean while Dave still had his pillie on and got smashed straight away. He landed a 12 kilo dolfin fish. I got hit once on a jet head but didn't hook up. Went to the banks to finish up the day and caught more parrot, pearlie and gold spots.
The conditions where great sitting on 45-50klm all day. Another top RDO

are dolphin fish in season at the moment?
do you need a different settup for them or do you use something similar to mackerel or tuna ? i'm going to 1770 in about 10 days hoping there might be 1 there

Foxy not much current at all, easy to get down with a 9 or 10 ball. Dave is one of those fella's that is a lucky prick write time write place.

Jeffo that 6/0 dose it go though the eyes or mouth. Also what speed, i am gessing around 4 knots

Hook them up through the mouth and troll them as slow as you can. Where is the waverider bouy between the 12 mile and the Barwons?

Re: 12 mile to the banks

I'll offer a different opinion to Brooksy. Use a straight shank pattern and go through the cartlidge between the mouth and eyes sideways near the nostrils. Troll as slow as the conditions and your boat let you.

A few years ago I started out with the short shank Mustad live bait pattern in gal then onto chemical sharp stuff like Gamakatsu live baits. Other mates used to swear by Tarpon pattern hooks so have used the Gamakatsu SL12S hooks as well. Lately been using circle hooks in three Mustad patterns and the boat I fish on down the Gold Coast uses Owner and Gamakatsu circles.
