    Belated 1770 report

    Hello Gang,

Sorry for the late report but during our great holiday to 1770 I became extremley ill and was laid low at home for over a week. Just getting back into the swing of things now.

Anyway it was actually about 3 weeks ago now - the week after all the wid weather. We hired a house at 1770 itself and the view was awsome. We'll be back there for the M+G. Had Leanne, Leanne's mum and dad (Rob + Coral), and good friends Brad and Kyile + 1.5 year old Cooper along for the trip.

    Went something like this.

Sat: Drive up - settle in - go see Tony - get the latest gos and gear and enjoy the night.

Sun: Gentlemen's start had us at the river mouth at 9ish to be confronted by mac tuna schools as far as the eye could see. Stretched kilometres and hit anything thrown at them. Leanne's mum and dad thought it the best thing they had ever done. Couple kept for bait the rest went back. Conservatively 20 caught in a few hours with some pushing 6-8kgs. Off for some bottom bashing about 20k SE. Again I deckied while Leanne and her parents boated about 16 nice reefies with some big spangleds the stand out. Fresh fish for dinner.

Mon: Took Leanne, Brad and Kylie out to Fitzroy Lagoon. We were the only boat there the whole day. Snorkelling, swimming, spearfishing, eating and drinking, diving with some fishing on the way home. Speared some nice coral trout and a couple of spangleds with a another 12 or so nice reefies filling the ice box after a bottom bash on the way home. Fresh fish again for tea.

Tues: Took Leanne, Rob and coral out to Fitzroy Lagoon. Conditions became glass after 10ish and we basically repeated the day from before with trout, and mixed reefies htting the icebox after a great day in the water. Fresh fish again for tea.

Wed: Took Rob, Brad and Tony out to Busted Head for some Spanish fishing. Think we got 4 in the boat with another 3 throwbacks and about 5-6 drops or bite-offs. Nothing like Rob's monters but it was fun nonetheless. Spent lunch in Pancake creek followed by Tony and I having a swim around the bommies looking for crays. No crays but spotted a few bar cheek trout that I may have to come back for. Can't wait for the M&G so everyone can see Tony's power snorkel set-up - quite a bit of gear. The crays will come - of that there's no doubt. Some more Spanish fishing before home. Finally had steak for tea.

Thurs: - bit crook and a bit rougher so did some things around town before taking Rob and Coral over to Busted for some some late afternoon spanish fishing. A couple in the box and home again for spanish for tea.

Fri - pretty crook by now and forecast was crap so drove down through deepwater to Baffle Creek with lunch at Wreck rocks. Back to find the water as flat as a tack offshore - couldn't eat tea.

Sat - really crook and spent the day on the couch - can't remember tea.

Sunday home after popping more flu tablets than was healthy.

I'd like to thank Tony, Sandie and Josh who once again were awsome friends and welcomed us with open arms. Great to see friendly hospitality is alive and well in this country. Glad you were able to have a day off mate to come fishing - 3 in one week - you'll owe Sandie now

I've managed to find some good ground for the M+G and will be keen to do an overnighter or 2 out around the reef itself where I'm sure the trout will come to the party combined with some large crays in the spotlight. Let's hope for some good weather guys because it's and awsome place.

Rob with his biggest fish before a spaniard a couple of days later.

They were all like this or bigger. Water was thick.

I've got heaps more photos but none here at work so I'll hopefully put more up later.

Nice trout Brett, I notice most around there are the bar cheeked versions they are the norm ones ay.

I think you might have caught something in the water, with the gbrmpa reef closures there are bound to be too many fish crapping in the water now ???

Tony having a shot at the title not quiet big enough mate
    seeyas soon.

Its great country up there. Those lagoons are pretty awsome places to get out to. Shame about the Crays but the Trout made up for it.
