Sneaked out early mornin through Currumbin Bar to be greated by a gentle swell and great conditions and headed to the Mackeral Reefs.'
Deciede to anchor up fisrt a nd put out two floating pillies was about 20mins before the first went of , but ended up being a Cobia of about a metre long ,10mins later and was into my first spot. Then the spots went off the dead baits and all the action from then on was Spinning gear . Except for one 5ft Hammer Head shark that took a bait.
Ened up bagging out on Spots and releasing another few.All the spots were a good size the best one went just under 12lb.And to cap it off on my last cast with the spinng gear managed to nail my first Blue for the season, just went 16lbs
There have been alot of boats at Palmy Lately so i hear - the spots must be arriving for christmas - I have been good this year and it looks like Santa is coming to the party.
Excellent catch, but you always have excellent catches - did you get the fish with metal slugs? any live bait rigs?
Well done mate, got any pics of the cobe? Seems like the reefs are firing atm, but the spots are being very particular in thier feeding habits. How much fight did the blue put up?
Yeah JB
No pics of the Cobia was released(not that all fussed on the eatin quaility of em + buggers to clean) But were a few caught early around Me.The size of the Spots are quite good at the moment and today they just preffered the slugs, had baits out all mornin ,also saw a couple caught on the tow..Tha Blue was a nice surprise at the end of the day. just though it was a big spot for awhile ,but on the third big run and second time around the boat started to think it might be a Blue. Was using 15lb Mono, on ShimanoTSS4, no wire trace
