    fraser shoals charter

fished saturday and sunday out of hervey bay with tasman venture at the shoals north east of fraser lighthouse. we had 9 people on the boat so decided to fish fairly shallow all weekend(up to 50m). we had mixed results with good numbers but no real size. we bagged out on parrot, nearly bagged on red throat, caught pleanty of different species of cod (including a great looking blue maori cod i hadn't seen before), two red emperor at only 65cm, the odd pearly and snapper. the bite was going on and off in waves. we had some pretty good bustoffs to sharks etc.
the fishing was different from what we normally do (reefies out from the cape) and everyone had a good time. skipper, deckie and boat were great. i've sent a few photos.

Was the stubby holder included in the price of the charter. or did you have to bring it yourself simon?
The fish up there seem to know when you're about to have that first sip and that's when they strike.
Have tried this method with vb but they don't seem at all interested
    Nice red there mate.
looks like there was plenty of room on the boat.
Did You fish at night? if so What was the fishing like after the sun went down?

    Geday Simon ,
Before I bought my new boat , I use to do about 3 trips a year with Lloyd on the Tasman Venture .
Top boat , Skipper & deckie , we normally ended up with a good catch .
You did it easy fishing 50 mts all weekend , I've been on trips were most of the weekend we were fishing 110mtrs & had to use up to 1&1/2 lb of lead .
Absolutely nackered by the end of the trip .

Sounds like you got a reasonable catch , NICE RED . [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
