On any given night you will see atleast 5 or 6 big barra (they call them Cooktown or Pinkeye samon) swimming around in the shadows as well as big Jcks, GTs, Doggies, Spaniards and Cuda

    Re: Flattery

The depth at the middle of the BHF is around 20m and at the end is close to 35m. out here things are wide. When I was up there in nov 04. I saw a shark which would have been close to 4m long jump clean out of the water and chomp at a flock of birds flying past about 2m above the water. Needless to say you don`t wanna fall in out here.

Guy catch everything from huge Spaniards and Dogtooth tuna to big Reds, Tuskies and Trout. Afew of the older guys that have worked there for years tell stories of Marlin being hooked off the end but i`ve got a feeling thats just the fisherman coming out in them.
All the pics at http://www.ausfish.com.au/cgi-ausfis...num=1104939980 were taken here.

    Re: Flattery

the deckie when i was on aqua cat in cairns was using the stripeys for bait i think he said something about that it was good bait. apparently they are alright chewing as well. but id much rather send a stripey down to the bottom for a trout.

    Re: Flattery

Yeah Nathan I have. Don't use it very much though as I keep the Stripies for food as they are beautiful eating.
Fusilier tails work well in the same manner also.
Hope to go fishin with ya someday (hint nint lol )
    Cheers, Mark.

    Re: Flattery

I have got a mate that swears by it. I tend to like stripies and fusiliers for 'hard baits' to supplement the pilchard supply and stay on the line a lot longer. I have found that the larger trout tend to like a single whole pilchard though. I tend to fish with a paternoster rig, with a strip bait on one hook, and a whole or half pilchard on the other.
