After watching the Squidgy Secrets DVD that Santa gave me during the week I was keen to get out and give the SP’s another try.
The first modification to my technique I made was to replace the 6 kilo mono trace with 3kilo mono.
The first squidgy (65mm wriggler in bloodworm) hit the water at 5am at Lota from the bank near the creek mouth. I concentrated on casting around where the water was draining from the banks and after about 20 casts I hooked up to a 20cm flathead. A good start. The bloodworm wriggler then accounted for another 4 flathead in the 20-30cm range. I decided to change to a Squidgy silver fox wriggler as I could see a lot of small fish in the shallows and hadn’t had a hit on the bloodworm for a little while. This accounted for another two flathead 25-30cm and to my surprise a 25cm whiting.
I then decided to try a few of the other plastics I had with me and got another small flathead on a Berkley 2” power grub in pumpkinseed before switching back to the bloodworm wriggler for what was to be the last small flathead of the morning.
9 flathead (although none of legal size) and a whiting has convinced me that these SP’s may be worth persisting with!! My confidence is definitely boosted after a couple of recent fishless attempts with the SP’s.
