Weather report for new years day and the 2nd was looking good so headed up to 1770. Called in and had a chat to Tony on new years day. He was a bit slow but he was open - a bit of a suprise really. Planned to chase some spaniards on the first day but a couple of flat batteries ruined that idea. Batteries are hard to find on new years day. Did manage to get one new one and charged one of the others overnight ready for day 2. Day 2 had 4 in the boat and since it was to be our final trip it was decided to chase some reefies. Fished the inner wides at about 7 and things were a bit slow. A few lipper, a nice cobia and a couple of nice spangled emperor. Moved to 8 fathom patch and things were a bit better. Hussar, lipper, parrot and quite a few reds. Quite a few just under 55cm but did get one at 60cm. Things got quiet so moved to the outer wides before heading home. 4 nice trout around the 4 kilo mark and an 8 kilo cod caught there. The reefs were a bit slow and had probably been fished pretty heavy outside of the reef closure periods. Lots of boats out on all the reefs on our day out. All in all not too bad a trip. No pics yet. Didnt get digital camera for christmas.
Sounds like you had some fun and got a good feed!
Shame you didn't get that spaniard you were after, but the reefies would have made up for it. We havn't had much joy with the weather since you left and it's set to get a heck of a lot worse
The swell is building up here this morning, the next few days may be interesting!
Hope to see you again, Regards, Tony
windoweyes,
do go as for as the fitroys occassionally. Not much point these days. A lot of fuel for 20 fish each. If travelling that far you would have to count o catching 20 good ones. Can do quite well closer in. If you never been to the lagoon though it is a beautful place to visit. Crystal clear water. Like Tony said the ramp at 1770 is very good. We have never had a problem launching our 6m Stingray even at the lowest tides. Only hassle can be the strong run as the tide moves in and out. Pretty easy really.
