Brissy Riva bass

I'm normally pretty quite about my fav small water fishing spots, however hardly a week goes by that I dont have at least a short session up the top of the Brisbane River or a local creek.

I've got to say that the numbers of fish in this river are as high as I've ever seen right now. The number of juveniles is rediculous.

Took Wayne Osbourne (Team Xstream) for a flick up to a section of the Bris Riv yesterday & he got close to 20 bass without trying too hard. Could see the rats in packs working the edges, a cast in front & they were onto it faster than a Mormon takes to a Malvern Star.

While the sizes of the fish were far from huge, the clean water & regular hits made for great fishing fun.
Wind was minimal so the surface lures came out early after some hits on splash down. Surface luring is great fun, even better when its still bright & sunny enough to see fish on an intercept course for the still airbourne lure. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

All in all I've got to say that the stocking of this river (above the Mt Crosby Weir to Wivenhoe Dam) is definately successful.

The Egrell CFS S1-6 makes a great popping & light lure rod; not too sloppy allowing crisp & precise movements, but light enough to cast small lures easily eg River 2 Sea Bubble Pop45 & 65.

For the record, Wayne out fished me in numbers & got the biggest of the day. Last time I take him to one of my honey holes!

A friend of mine and his son were fishing near the moggill ferry using prawns and caught this one fitzy. 42cm

There's a few of them down in the tidal stuff Webby (not enough tho).
Be buggered if I'd be killing one from that water to eat tho. The Moggill Ferry is only about 1km from the Brisbane & Bremer junction. The Bremer is officially Qlds most polluted/dirtiest river. I cant believe that Ipswich locals eat muddies from the Bremer. [smiley=sick2.gif]

I can only add ditto to your Bris Riva trip, a job well done to the stocking of the river.

Our recent adventure to similar waters saw us snare about 40 bass in an afternoon of about 2-3 hours.
Unbelievable fun, lots of rats, and on poppers too.

Our prized catch of afternoon was a bass of 3 inches on a 1 inch softie.

sounds like a good spot up that way, is there much in the way of bank access or is it all basially from a canoe or boat,

Unfortunately most of the good water up there is inaccessable or impossible to fish from the bank. Any places where bank access is available are either over fished or dont hold many fish (for obvious reasons).

You could try walking the bank at Savages Crossing & walk upstream. A bit of bank there that holds the odd fish.

Also you can walk downstream of Mt Crosby Weir down to Colleges Crossing, a few km of good fish holding water there. Just cant fish 400m below the main weir & 50m below the old (disused) weir. Been alot of fish caught in that short bit of river over the years. Go give it a try mate.
