Club held its annual marlin trip yesterday out from the Gold Coast. Perfect weather, although there was a good size swell running.
Put the lures in at 50 m East of the seaway and started trolling. We had 4 boats from our club out there, with 10 on board.
Slow start to the day but Dave on another boat 'Hard Drive' hooked a 70-80 kg black and played it for 10 minutes before it busted off. Had a small black come into our spread around 9 am and hit a couple of lures without hooking up. Another hit about 10.30 which was a good hookup on an uzi in pilchard, but my 6 kg line broke soon after the hookup. Bit of abrasion there - time to re-spool.
Two more hit for us over the next hour or so resulted in two small blacks tagged for my skipper Darryl, so he was happy. Unfortunately, his digital camera was playing up and we were unable to get any photos.
Don't yet know how the other boats went but did see them hooked up a few times.
Cheers,
Jeremy
