Been watching the weather like a hawk last 3 days waiting for a moment to head out, yesterday was like glass... till about 20mins after hitting the water..
Vertico and I fished Old woman Island again as we were planning on doing 2 days out the front of mooloolaba and just spend the arvo fishing the island then head south the next day.. well the winds stuff that up, we got to OWI in about 15 mins and proceded to fish, with good hits on each cast.. then the wind picked up but we still persisted, in the end i scored a dart and a big eye trevally on fly, Sean got himself a big eye trevally aswell.. we then decided to leave since it was blowing about 20+ knots and i had taken 2 waves over the front of my boat while i was fishing up the front...
Today, we launched at 4 to a glassy bay.. but still light winds, getting to old woman island again in about 15mins.. the fishing was dead quiet till the sun came up... after quite a few bumps, dropoffs and biteoffs, we decided to head towards Currimundi... only problem was, it was blowing 15+ knots by the time we got near Cartwright... we kept on going for a couple more kms.. but the wind and waves slowly got worse... so we headed back north, upon getting back into the bay, we saw some tuna working, so i got Sean up the front with his spin gear and a 5" zoom plastic, 2nd cast into the working fish saw him locked up for 40mins with a solid mack tuna of around 6-7kg... normally a mack tuna would give up quick, but this critter was going to fight for a while.. once landed, Sean decided to keep it for Sashimi so it was bled and iced... it was now my turn to try and get a fish on fly.. only problem was, due to the 2 slug chuckers in another boat that kept roaring into the school, they fish dissapeared, after an hour or so of wandering around we headed back north to OWI.. blowing 20 knots and with sea's picking up, we werent hoping on much, my 3rd cast into the white wash resulted in a nice snappery squire on the flyrod of around 2+ kg.. and sean snagged upto a 3ft+ longtom.. , our 2nd run of the gauntlet resulted in another longtom for sean.. but a bludger trevally for me.. in the 3kg mark, it nearly bricked me, seriously, for there size, those critters can put the hurt on! .. after another longtom for Sean, we decided to call it a day and head back in, back home by 1pm.. long day.. slow day.. rough day!!
