    Re: Big Bar

Hi Vertico, you can bring 4 maximum-3 minimum with you, or I can slip you in with some others.
Hi Adam, that bloody hammerhead is still on the same rock it was last year but now he is about 14ft long! Only been loosing about 2 a day to him so far! Will be good to catch up again.

    Getwet,

I call them a Painted Sweetlip although I think they are actually a Blubberlip. They seem to have a number of different common names.

In terms of eating quality, some people do eat them , but I am not one of them . They tend to have a very weedy taste and are regarded as one of the "mother in law" fish varieties.

My deckie caught a 3kg one on the weekend and it is being used for crab bait. Kids will eat anything

    Cheers,

    Mark

Webby About 15years or more ago Mono would of been ripping that peak up on his kneeboard. I can remember paddling into a nice wave at the pass and this guy on a kneeboard coming of the bottom giving me the hoy not to drop in. But at least I didn't have to go in to beach to stand up. (old surfing joke said only to kneeboarders)

    Re: Big Bar

Hi Roy, yes the board still comes out occasionally. Its a bit like riding a bike- you never forget how to do it. I didnt go out that day- the 'mind' was keen but the 'body' wasnt quite up to it! The were some 8 to 10 feet sets that day and I cant hold my breath that long anymore!

G'day Mono Yeah Iam the same. Havn't gone to a mal yet. But the boat gets used a bit more than the board. The fittness tends to drop of a little as the years tick by.

    Re: Big Bar

I call the fish a weedy bream. I think the painted sweetlip (lovely name for a crap eating fish by the way) is more commonly referred to as the slatey bream.

    Mal
Been doing a bit of fishing up at Noosa over the past month or so. They've been a number of good sweeties being caught up there, as well as few other mixed reefies. We got 7 the other morning the best ones going around the 3kg mark.

    Re: Big Bar

I reckon its a yellow spotted blubberlip. Very weedy tasting. Generally hang round rocky or reefy areas. Its a bit hard to tell from your pic but they usually have yellowy spots on their body as well as the distictive blue stripes on the face.
