    Wide Caloundra 1-1-05

Headed out to Wide Caloundra Saturday 1-1-05 .
We started fishing about 5.30 at The Old Spot X. at Caloundra Wide We didn't get a lot of fish , but I was more than happy with the result .My deckie & I both got 3 Squire /Snapper each with the largest going 5.5 Kg.
All the fish were caught using Pillies on floating type rigs .
I got the 3 biggest fish all on one rod , using a Squid skirt on top of the Pillie .
    ( Thanks for the tip Reel-Job / SeaSaw ) miley=2thumbsup.gif]
WE headed back to the top of the bay at about 10.30 ,to see
if we could score some Mackies on the way home . Saw a few schools of small Tuna working , but no Mackies .
You couldn't ask for better conditions , light SWer in the morning , with just a bit of a SE swell .By mid morning it just about glassed out , then after lunch #NE breeze to push us home . [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] #
I'll try & post some photo's of the catch .
    And before you ask ,
Although it doesn't look it in the photo ,YES the smallest Squire in the photo was legal .

    Geday Webby ,
I was suprised to get onto the Snapper , thought that they would have gone untill next winter , but I'm not complaining .
Now I just have to figure out how to catch em in the bay
I'm still havent caught a Mackie yet this year , then again its only 2 days old .

    Hi Mark .
I didn't expect to get any Snapper , but thought that I might get a few Pearlies or Parrot . But as I said to Webby I'm not complaining .
I got all the bigger fish on the one rod that had a squid skirt on top of a pillie floating rig .
I'm starting to get hooked on this deep water fishing , hopefully I'll start getting out there more often with you in SeaSaw & Lou in Reel-Job . [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

    Catch ya later guys

nice fish pete, can't complain about getting a feed like that when the the weather is that great. I'd prefer snapper any day compared to the macks.

Nice catch there Peter......Nothing better than fresh snapper on the dinner plate.
Mate buy yourself some 5" plastics and put one on a heavy jig head......big snapper love them!!!!!!!.Zoom arkansas shiner works well.
You just need a slower running current to get that jig head down into the bottom half of the water column.
