Just got back yesturday from a long deserved holiday in NZ with the family, got there to perfect conditions and got some bad news! The guy that was going to take me fishing fell off his bike and broke his shoulder bone in 3 places and that he wouldnt be able to take me out. As the next couple of days progressed with no fishing and the weather got worse I thought bugger it, Ive bought my gear all this way, im going fishing if it kills me, So I bought A fishing paper (kiwi version of bush n beach) and looked up a local charter. called them up and booked to go out the next day. next day comes and its cancelled due to 40-50knott winds and extreme weather warnings. Next day finally manage to get out rough weather and all (30knotts). Fished an area called the Tirri passage (Auckland) sheltered behind a small Island with a light house. Got there about 9am and fished till 330pm. Had an awesome day, hooked about 15snapper each and all on board were having a great time. I had the new okuma corrida bait runner and the poor old man got stuck on the LD245 with the 24kg mono line. (lotsa weight used getting him to the bottom) nothing really big caught but approx 12 keepers with the biggest at about 45 cm. Just before we were about to head home I had a hit from something that took off!! and took 150yards of 10kg braid with it. Unfortunately it busted me, but just after it did, it jumped and we are thinking it was a kingfish??? aparantly they can be know to jump over there from time to time??? n e ways heres some pics please enjoy

Hey mate, great report, good to see you finnally got out somewhere after taking your gear all the way there. Looks bloody windy in one of the photos! Some crazy weather down there in kiwi land. Give us a call and we'll catch up. i think thrus night i'm not doin anything, might come around.
