    !2 Mile, Gladstone 5/2/05

Went to the 12 mile out off Gladstone, weather doesn’t get any better than it
was today. We were on the water by 3:30 am and the bloody sounder was
playing up. Stuffed around for a while but wouldn’t come good. Not to much fun heading out of North Entrance in the dark with no sounder. Bugger!

Decided to keep going as had mate in other boat with sounder.

Get to the 12 mile and fishing before 5:00. Mate goes and anchors on a
little spot and we do a drift by. Manage to score a couple of grassy’s to 3kg
and mowies (all released). Another drift, another grassy and Red Emporer 7kg,
Sweeeeeet. Another drift, parrot, hussar and more bloody mowies.
Run in the tide stops and all goes quiet.

Mates boat swings around on anchor so we go over and anchor close have
a bite to eat and a skite. Run picks up and the Red Jew come on .Biggest
up to 6 kg. Another Red Emporer that was 555mm, decided that we had
enough fish so put a tag in it and watch it swim off. ( maybe next time)

Pack up and head for home by 9:30. Glassy seas all the way in.

    Total for the morning.
    11 Red Jew
    5 Grassy’s
    2 Hussar
    1Parrot
    1Red Emporer
    5 mowies released

    Volvo,
will have to grow a mow and look like you to be pretty.
What a shame you had to work this weekend and miss this weather.

If your going to fish the 12 mile there is no point in fishing in the daylight hours. Ie from 9:00am to 4pm. As you will find all you will catch is those pesky hairtails.12 mile is capable of amazing fishing during the night, or as "tabs" has shown, a very early start is just as effective. Tabs was underway at 3:30am and fishing before 5, you was home by 9:30am. I have known people to fish 12 mile during night hours and to load up with red jew. However, during daytime one would swear that there are no fish on the 12 mile at all. Overall, 12 mile is capable of awesome fishing but on the other hand one could go there and not catch a single thing.

    Bladerunner,
Should have made a quick change of plans when you saw the weather.
How did you go at Seal?

    Macdwp01
Only got a little boat so have to maximise the best weather.
I don't like getting flogged and wet, so out early and home early.
I usually only go luring in the harbour, so this is an added bonus.
    Just finished another feed
