Saturday Morning Off Wello On SP's
Well after some very good tips from Brent / Aquarius it was time to put it all into practice. We put in at Wello boat ramp just on Sunrise and headed over towards Ormiston Point. After working out the drift and finding the drop off we selected 3 inch minnows and started working along the ledges. I have never used Soft Plastics before so it was a bit of trial and error at first and managed to lose the first Jig head to the rocks. First hook up was a small Snapper of 27cm which went back to fight another day. My son then hooked up on something a lot bigger and it turned out to be a Potato Cod of about 35cm but in really good condition. It also went back after a big kiss from a very happy young fella. Things went quite for a while at Low tide so we experimented with different colours and Jig head weights and managed to get a few just legal grassies as the tide started to move in, they were great fun on the lite gear and hit very hard. We then moved in closer as the tide built and went back to the green colours and almost immediately I hooked up on a much bigger fish, ended up busting me off, then my Son copped the same treatment. We re-rigged and circled out wide and set up for another drift, second cast and got hammered again, I managed to get this one up and it was a nice Snapper 38 cm and very healthy. I have still got the face aches from grinning for the rest of the day. So in closing, I would just like to say that I am now another convertee to SP's, hope it wasn't beginners luck. Sorry I don't have any pics to post due to a tech glitch but I will put it on my profile when I get the bugs ironed out.
Cheers,
Peter.

Re: Saturday Morning Off Wello On SP's
Hi Peter, mate we should have hit Wello at first light but i was keen on trying for a parrot up in the rainbow channel.
Bought some 2" plastic crabs from Duncan especially for this trip.
Its great that you and your son got onto a few fish and hope they just get bigger from now on.
That light gear sure is fun but if you are getting busted up too many times go up in a line class to say 10lb fireline and use a 14lb leader.
Good luck with your next trip out there mate.
Cheers Brent
