    Barwon Banks 19/02

headed out to the barwon banks this morning with craig (cheech). leaving the ramp a bit before 3.30am it was a very long, rough and hard run out to the banks. according to the odometer we traveled an additional 30km than which we were meant to ???

after finally arriving their we began to fish the depper water insearch of a pearly. 2 drifts produced nothing.
i was hit by sea sickness and didn't drop one bait down.

then we went to the shallower grounds and began to start catching some fish. first was a red rock cod, then a just undersize red throat and maori cod. finally a keeper was landed a nice sized parrot fish. then a legal red throat emperor.

i was still yet to put the baits in

then we decided to head back in. the trip back in was still lumpy however was no were near as rough as the run out.

was a great morning out fishing thanks again craig for the invite. sorry i wasn't able to help contribute to the fish tally.

    cheers phil

Phil,,, I thought you were just tired and needed a kip. I told you I woudn't mention the sea sickness if you didn't. Mackmauler said he taught you all his bad habits. Geeze, he could have skipped this one.

Ok, I probably should have returned earlier, but a 1.5 hour drive in the middle of the night, followed by a 1.5+ trip to the spot,,, I was trying to be optomistic.

Just joking. Was actually quite a tough trip out, and during fishing. Mark, a bit like the first few trips I had with you. But guess what,, I got airborne,,, 2 or 3 times 8) zzzing.

The conditions just did not match what we were expecting.. but having said that, they were probably exactly what was forecast. I think the difference was the spacing between waves. Was advertised as 7 seconds. Would normally be around 9+. What this did was make what should be a reasonable see at 2m swell and 10kn wind, into something nasty. You just could not get much speed as you were airborne. (note here that this is a real pain and not much fun,,, if you are a deckie)

So phil,,, next time, 5 - 10 km. Thanks for the company. It was a tough ask without a cast iron stomach.

Hey,, you didn't mention how fantastic a filleter I am..

craig is such a great filliter. the neatness of the fillets and then the skining were do i start

it was great to be out there today. i just wish i did have a cast iron stomach. oh well many good fisherman have gotten seasick.

i counted 5 airborne times. and their were a few rib jaring drops.

pitty we didn;t come across any spotty boils on the return journey

    cheers phil

    Hi Cheech

I saw you on the highway driving back home as we were heading out for an afternoon at Tangas. Great to see the rig getting such regular workouts. Funny seeing being dragged behind someone else's car though. Looking forward to seeing some pics of her in action!

    Drevil,

Yep it sure does get a workout. But taking good care in the process. Have already given the whole top surface 2 polishes with a mild polish/abrasion, and then the whole boat with a teflon added polish. Came up a treat.

    Cheech & Phil,

I think we got a better day of it today than you got yesterday. The trip out and back was pretty good - we didn't get any air Fishing was a bit patchy, so we had to work many different spots to get a feed (or two ) of reefies. I'll put up a report shortly.
