Today, finally, we caught our first prawns. Went out on the Caboolture River bright and early, and although they werent plentiful, we managed to bag out by (late) lunchtime. Fresh prawns for dinner! YUMMO!

Re: Our first prawns!
just wondering ------over here in the south carolina, usa we "bait" for them. fish meal and clay mixed 50/50 then made into a hand sized ball. throw it in the water wait about 5 minutes and castnet into the same spot. yall ever tried baiting for prawns? would it work? it works fantastic for us.

Re: Our first prawns!
tide-line2,good to hear from as far a field as you (my wifes cousine lives there abouts).over here when they are ON you can see them jumping on surface or clicking as they jump or pick schools of them up on sounders and cast over them.when they are scarce i usualy work the drop offs or deep holes(anything up to15m)for ones and twos at a time.when they are thick it is not hard to get a kilo + per cast though i have not been that lucky.when it is high season for prawns there is rape and pillage of them from some quarters of our diverse multi cultcheral society that tends to spoil the whole idea of amatuer social fun plus a feed if you are lucky.we get our prawns around the mangrove areas and up creeks and rivers most of the time, except for the ocean ones.
i have never known any one that "baits"for them here but it soundes quiet logical ,if someone does not cast over your bait ball.over here our season is starting a bit slow this year.usualy from feb to may but can be either side of that depending on rain and weather for that time of year.i have only been doing it for a couple of seasons so mabey someone else can add to this if i am not accurate.
