    fraser island quicky

lucky_phill and I went up to fraser for 4 days of fishing and exploring towed a 5.2mtr tinnie upto waddy foredunes. Left at 5am from here to a nice easy drive to rainbow beach waiting for mackmauler (Rob) and his brother at rainbow it soon came aparient that they were late or had already gone ahead so we filled the car and boat full of fuel and headed for inskip point waited for a few minutes for the manta ray. Hit fraser Is and had a great trip along the beach the rain the night before made the sand nice and hard we had no troubles at getting around all the rocks got to waddy in very good time all tracks were the best i had seen them.
A quick setup and was time to put the boat in a have a fish as we were about to launch Rob and Brian turned up a quick word and we were off. We had to find the live bait first took alittle while but got plenty including a few whiting on the bait jig and of course it had to pelt down with rain and wind but that didnt put us off it was time to head to spot x first drop phill hooked onto a nice parrot then we got plenty of red throats, parrot, cod, coranation trout, gold spots, lancers and a few others all nice eating size fish. came in beofre dark to retreive the boat and seen rob was still out fishing went back to camp packed the fish on ice. noticed Rob still wasnt in so we drove down to make sure they could see the gutter to come in it was hard enough in the daylight let alone nearly dark not long after they turned up Phill used the car to guide them in and all was sweet. We had some Fish for dinner and then sat around with few drinks and talked.
Next morning was looking fishable so off we went again this time headed out futher to find some very nice shows on the soundar got a few baldy bream and parrot etc wasnt long before the sharks were onto us not that they were too bad but lost a few good fish to them wind was getting worse around luch so we headed in alittle to a spot that worked the day before stayed there for a few hours but it was made hard cause of the current around 3-4 knotts but still managed to get a good feed from there though.
Next day we couldnt fish outside so we went to the cape for a drive and through slugs at dart and phill learnt that lucky_phills mackmauler slugs works well on them too after we got a few we went south looking for Rob who was trying to get some beach worms which were being very hard to get.
the next day it was time to pack up and off to hook point to the barge deciding to take the beach all the way to twantin we had a great run DI rock were passable and as usual the tewantin cutting No1 was soft and like powder we seen a car boged on the track so decided to use the inside of him hoping we woulnd fall victom of the sand but the nissan narvara cruised through it towing the boat and all our gear neadless to say the guy stuck wasnt happy that we made it once on the twantin ferry was a quick trip to pump the tyres up and refuel and head home but of course the highway had a bankup of traffic from a accident so took the long way home

pics to follow tomorrow when camera is fixed ???

Good to see Jeff didn't " expose " the driving skills or " terrorist driving skills ". We'll just say that, wether you be a backpacker, Dingo or Thongs, if you are on the beach where the vehicles drive, then you are fair game ( rules according to Phill ).

After triping to the Cape on Sunday, we went inland to Wathumba Creek for a look. Mozzies and Sandies were in full cry.

Even though, we went for a few short days, NEVER and I mean NEVER, take a mattress that " she'll be right " mentality acords itself. Take a fair dinkum one. And another thing, appears that most of the trees on Fraser were cut down while we were there ! Yes , Jeff can snore !

    Other reports:-

1.... Ranger Lynda bats for the other team, ( according to Rob ).

2.... Dingos are there, but no problems

3..... Rouge Goanna's are there and need removing ( according to Lynda )

4.... If ya mates are not turning up until Saturday, bring FOOD for Friday ( Rob ??? )

    5...... Set alarm clock ( Rob )

    6..... WTF is Nude Monday ( Rob ) ?

7..... More speed required on Marsh Fly killing, Jeff.

8..... Why do female backpackers shower on the beach, naked ?

9.... Is FHM, Ralph, Picture and Hustler, required reading material for a fishing trip ? Rob ?

10.... Desiel is $1.45/ltr on Fraser

11.... quote of the trip came from an unknown fella at the Orchid Beach Shop " just popped up for a swim ". nothing out of the ordinary, maybe, BUT, he flew there in his own Cessna. DOH !

A few more stories to tell, but they can wait for the next M & G !

ranger lynda well that one i was trying to leave alone but im not sure about batting for the other team but she sure did want to get away from you in a hurry[smiley=gorgeous.gif]
The matress thing well lets just say the matress i took is already in the bin never to be seen again

Dane the stand out fish for me was seeing the coronation trout was not massive but its such a pretty fish to see and i hear very nice to eat

there was good signs for marlin out there i have never seen so many flying fish in one area and rob did find the yellow fin tuna quickly so he might just find a stray marlin if he trys for them

    any problems with weed

    Re: fraser island quicky

plenty of weed in patchs its brown as a septic tank but in other places its very good all you will have to do is find a gutter without

the dart we got came from the weed though but cause we were using slugs we didnt have much trouble
