    TOWNSVILLE STRAND JETTY

Fished Strand Jetty last night 2000hrs till about 2300 hoping to christen new reel/rod, but was not to be...

Weather was pleasant mid 20's with mild to moderate onshore breeze 5-10kts and low humidity. Swell accross Cleveland bay was about .5m.

A live whiting untouched for over an hour and a half and whilst that was swimming around, Crabs and small (under 10cm) fingermark (jesus perch) were well fed on Prawns and Mullet. [smiley=whip.gif]

[smiley=angel.gif]All in all another successfull fish and crustacean feeding session here in Townsville. [smiley=angel.gif]

Those legal whiting make good Barra Baits.
Should start to see some mackerel around the area soon

That strand jetty isn't what i'd describe as an ideal fishing platform , kind of ironic when thats what it was designed for. I'd choose the breakwater or Palleranda over it any day. Better luck next time

Seen plenty of legal Barra caught of the jetty, legal mackerel and very good whiting.

Luring around the rocks produces Jacks and Barra.

I've seen some very nice sized barra in the lights at that jetty, and those who know me, know it takes alot to impress me.
Bosunsmate try flaoting your whiting about 2 feet under the surface and lip hook your baits.

Will do that next time Wild, have also seen some impressive fish caught off the jetty, I caught a nice sized salmon last year and have regularly caught good sized grunters off the casino side towards the stinger net floats just on the edge of the lighted area...

There have been some quite sizable mackeral caught over the years.

I remember hearing of occasional good captures there throughout the time I lived in Townsville. Possibly the best catches were some decent golden trevally. My point earlier was the cruddy design of the jetty...I look forward to seeing photos of all the fish you guys catch there in the future. cheers

The outer walls of Stinger nets are a great place to fish. Dived one at Taylors Beach (near Lucinda) one morning and there were huge barra all over it. Creates great structure for em to rest
