nice fish smithy the gutters have been quiet lately. good to see there are still some nice spaniards around rooneys. there have been good coral bream around and trout. the bait mark you asked for isnt holding pike at the moment but there have been some pike and yakkas around the fairway

Chemmy, took a good couple of hours my oldman did the fish while i cleaned the boat and smithy was at bloody work!!!

Adam, didnt get much from the gutters just sharks and those bloody ramoraas or however u spell it. the spanish came from the gutters and the schoolies came from rooneys. didnt have any live bait for the gutters so that was probably a bit of a downer but anyway thats fishing.

Nice eating fish there smithy. And once again Rooneys hussar are the yellow variety rather than the regular pink ones. By the way smithy its Stuart here. We met on that trip last year chasing snapper with perko out of caloundra.

My thoughts exactly JB,everything I have read or been told has Hervey Bay and in particular Platypus Bay as the ciguatera capital of Austrailia.

Yeh the spanish do contain cigateria we dont eat them just catch them for the fun some people say you can eat the smaller ones but i personally dont think its worth the risk.

There is a ban on taking Spanish Mackerel in a line from Rooneys Pt to Coongul Pt. Outside of that it is up to you what you do with them. Anything outside of this line is fair game for the pros. I often see a pretty famous local pro that fishes out of a flybridge Kevlacat drop in on spots like the Rooneys 4 mile and Arch Cliffs 6 mile which are just outside this line on his way back from more exotic places like Sandy Cape Shoals. We watched him pull one at Rooneys Sunday morning. All of those fish hit the markets and there only seems to be about 1 Cig scare a year. Anything we don't eat ends up as berley on the next trip. Nothing is wasted. Some of our best bait lately has been Tuna we have caught in comps.

    Stu,

been following your posts for a bit and knew who you were. Like Perko, would be keen on any of your wide spots you will never get to. They will be in range of our big Signature.

so do u think using spanish mackerel for burley is not wasting a fish. why dont u just let them go ??? to fight another day.
