Tried to fish the gutters on ten mile beach but my line kept picking up some kind of grey-white substance, that looks like snot but is a b!^(h to get off your line. Ive never seen this before!! what is it???

Yup, snotweed the scourge of the beach fisherman. Pull the clear runny stuff off the outside and you are left with a cotton wool like fine weed that is near impossible to get off especially if you bite your fingernails.
Have had single casts where I had to clear it 3 or 4 times just to reel in because it kept clogging the tip and the little bits and pieces left made the line useless.
Best idea if you come across it is to move straight away, and try and find a piece of beach where it isn't. If it is thick it looks a bit like coral spawn in the water, brownish discoloration with long lasting bubbles. Also loves to superglue itself to leg hairs where the only real option is to pull those hairs out trying to remove it.
