    North Queensland OFFSHORE ACTION

    Hey Guys

As many of you know I have migrated back to north queensland. Went fishing offshore from Cairns on the Easter weekend (satuday i think ???).

In short, the results was a mixed bag of small and large mouth nannygai, sweetlip and rosy jobfish a few other fish were boated but released including a few just undersize reds

We threw back a few decent green jobfish (my mate reckons they aren't worth keeping) is this true? Have never kept them before. ??? ???

The fish were a little patchy and the usual spots only produced a fish here and there, my deckies were getting a little doubtful of me (i promised them lots of fish), with the pressure on I finally found out where they were hanging and produced a reasonable catch for them.

Most of the fish were caught in the hours leading up to daylight (only becuse thats when i found them ), when the sun came up they went off the bite ... So with a reasonable catch on board (and a tired skipper) we headed off home.

    Sam

Here is a pic of the catch

    Hey Sam,

Yes, those Jobbies are good chewing. Love the fight also.
donged one around the 6kg off Fraser a little while ago. But they get to 10ish.

Looks like I'll have to put you on my " must visit " list while doing a Northern Trek, next year.

Good size fish, that bag, hey. Too big and they get hard to fillet.

Not, too sure, but it looks like a couple of Spangleis in there, those bugga's can get ' tough ' as the size increases. Grassies are much better, as well as the Red Throat.

Good report, and look forward to more.

    Cheers Phill

nice haul mate. What reef were you on? We didn't do too bad but missed the Large Mouth. Most of our fish bit near the morning too although the bites were slow all night. Time of year I guess for reds.
    Cheers, Mark.

Mobile number still the same, the job is going great, will give you a ring one night to catch up

    Bazzaman

Your right ... they were caught "around" arlington! Good guess.

It was hard to jump off my new toy ... but the weather was just so nice and not to mention the luxury of borrowing dads 23.5 footer! (he is in tassy ... fishing for trout). The old 225 opti chews a little more than my 60 4strk yammy so the fuel hurts a little .... I am going to take your advice and hit my mate with a nula nula ... or maybe a green jobfish ... we threw quite a few nice ones away

    Hoga,

How did you go on Sunday at the banks? saw your "going fishing" thread and was going to give you a ring but took the boy out to Archerfield speedway to see the monster trucks instead.

Looked like it was going to be a bit lumpy out there. Looking forward to winter.
