    Mooloolaba - 1st - 2nd of June

Vertico and his new tub.. the big blue stabi ventured up yesterday for a fish.. and to see how it handles, being the 2nd time he's used it since getting it a bit over a week ago.. Conditions werent crash hot.. with monster swells with big chop and blowing 20+ knots.. it certainly tested it out.. and all i can say is DAMN! what an awesome rig.. no side to side rolling.. or bouncing around like a ping pong ball, this thing stood still.. we even had a few waves hit us side on, with a couple of drops coming over. i dont even know why we wore rain jackets.. we were dry as! not easy to say in an open boat...

With no GPS.. we were searching blind.. and with the conditions as they were.. we decided to just look around.. we found some bait schools and jigged up yakkas and slimies and the occassional whiptail.. throwing them in the untouched Live bait tank, they survived for hours with no problems.. after a bit of mucking around, we rigged a live slimey to troll behind the boat, going north with the wind/slop/swell it wasnt long till the slimey was slammed... hookup only lasting 30 seconds or so.. the fish not being hooked properly, we discovered one shreded slimey, with jagged lines all over it.. so no guesstimate on what hit it.. after that we called it a day and headed in

Today, wanting to wake up at 5am and get out before dark.. we managed to sleep in and get up at 6:30 to it blowing 20+ knots again and rough as hell.. few more livies in the tank.. we headed wide while the pro fishos headed for cover and stayed in the bay.. went out past the outter gneerings and got a feel of the boat in some truely shithouse conditions.. we tried fishing the reefs.. but gave up after a while.. so headed towards Old woman Island.. rigging up a live yakka we trolled it north again and got slammed after about 5mins, this time a solid hookup, in 5mins we had a decent sized spotty onboard and blooded the boat!! we didnt have any yakkas left so trolled a live whiptail for a while.. then gave up.. had a bit of a reef fish on Coolum reef, then headed home.. conditions werent friendly even tho the boat was eating it all up.. Got Sean to pose with the first decent fish caught on his boat then headed home.. on the way seeing ENERGEX Rescue Helicopter landing on old woman island and rescuing some standed surfers

Good on ya sean, i recon we'll see plenty of fish landed in your new rig over the next few months and im sure tim will be only to happy to take plenty of pics with his new camera of them! Good to see the boat blooded with a nice mackeral, my boat was blooded with one as well, i always worry that the first fish maybe something like a grinner! catch on the water...foxy

    60 knots ? you're dreaming

maybe i need to adjust speed indicator has us pretty close to 6 knots

If you saw us today around midday then im pretty sure the first 6 knot sign is inside the river about 2-300 metres. We had well and truely pulled up before that mark

Yeah it's 6kts alright cause i have been busted there before and i was on the slow down coming round the wall. Surfers often swim between the walls so keep an eye out i have even seen them swiming across in the dark!!!!
