Barwon Banks Sat Night 11/6
First we left from Mooloolaba at about 10:30pm for Currimundi not expecting to go to Barwon Banks. Me and a mate fished Currimundi and got 3 legal Sweetlip amongst all the smaller stuff. Caught some live yellowtail and put them in the live bait tank on the boat for later. We stayed at Currimundi until approximately 1:30pm and left there because we started catching little sharks and got snagged alot. We started the boat and decided to give Barwon Banks a go because the weather was going to be good and the boat ride out there wasn't to bad. We got to the Barwon Banks and started fishing when a Dolphin appeared and wouldn't leave us alone for about 2 hours. To cut a long story short we ended up catching 8 pearl Perch ( one being 70cm long ), 5 Snapper, 2 Parrot Fish, a nice Fingermark Bream, 3 Sweetlip and a Slatey Bream. We could have kept a heap of Coral (Iodine) Bream but decided we had better fish already so they got thrown back. Caught a couple red rock cod and a triggerfish which we threw back. Got busted off a few times, didn't know what it was. The swell picked up at about 10am so we called it quits for the day and headed home. We had Squid, Mullet, Tuna and Yellowtail for bait. We had to keep swapping and changing baits alot to keep the fish interested. Unfortunately didn't take the camera with me. Sorry about this being so long.

Coral bream and iodine bream are not the same fish. Coral bream (Grassy sweetlip) are excellent eating and Iodine bream (baldy bream) are terrible if smell like iodine but fair to good (some will argue excellent) if they dont smell. I assume they were iodine bream you caught.

They were Iodine bream (looked like big bream with a few white spots on them). We went out in a 5.3m aluminium half cabin with a underfloor fuel tank( Gives more room to move about in the boat. The motor is a 4 stroke 75hp Mercury. We only go out if the wind doesn't get above 15knots. This is a good size boat but you still have to pick your days though. As for buying a boat, it depends what you want to chase.

Re : Stu's comments on Coral bream / Iodine bream
Must be a Sunshine Coast thing - we call 'iodine bream' coral bream too - why call a grass sweetlip anything else but a sweetlip? ???

Re: Barwon Banks Sat Night 11/6
Cause some call the red throat a sweetlip and the grassys a yellow sweetlip. Way tooooo many names for fish so I think "I caught a fishy, and it was this big" is enough detail for the reports from now on .
Cheers, Jay
