Caught some livies in the canals then trecked it out to the Seaway. Great night. Got there on dead low tide and plonked out 2 sea mullet and 1 gar on the heavy gear. After 20 minutes the rod with the biggest mullie (my brothers) went off, before being bitten off. Called as a large jewwie or sharkie. Then just as the tide started to run again as i was riggin up my soft plastic gear with livies, my rod with the 2nd sea mullet went off. Ran out towards the mouth with heaps of headshakes, before turning again and coming back up the river. I was getting bloody excited as I'm yet to land my first jewwie and i figured this was a decent fish as it was giving me a fair go on 30lb braid. Anyhow jsut when i thought ok he might take off again soon, well he MORE than took off, This thing was peeling the braid off my Penn at a rate of knotts before finally busting me off. Anyhow by this stage i'd rigged my soft plastic gear up with a live herring and plonked it out and was now rerigging my heavy gear when i heard the reel click over twice. So i hit it thinking it was probably just the current but what do you know, there was that magic sound again ZZZZZZ, now my reel was loaded with 6lb braid and by this tage i was thinking WTF did i rig up this rod for, anyhow he ran out toward the mouth again with more headshakes and i was doing my best just trying to put a bit of pressure on him and was trying to slow him down with my thumb on the spool (which was mighty hot by this stage) Anyhow i finally stopped him but as we were brining in the other gear to chase the fella he got me to the bottom. Not happy. Anyhow the current really picked up then so we moved a bit, and after another half an hour my cousins rod goes off. This time on his SP rod with 4 lb braid... what were we thinking hahah anyway after a similar battle to mine he too was busted off. We ran out of livies about then so went and caught some more before returning. I managed one solid 3 or 4 lb big eye trevally but that was it apart from a few small shovellies. Anyhow it was a great night and despite not landing anything great was absoultely awesome because its the first time ive really specifically targetted jewwies except for on the odd occasion and live baiting for more a fariety of species rather than jewwies itself. So its given me alot of confidence and i cant wait to do it again.

Hahaha yes i would agree. Still fun though. We had heaps of herring but they were dying pretty quick so my bro is like lets jsut stick them on the softy gear, and im like but if we hook up we'll get spooled if its decent and hes like well its worth it and im like yeah true haha so we did it anyway. GOod fun though but yeah. The thing is would jewwies be picky like that at night... would they take the lighter gear over the heavier gear, or were we jsut unlucky on that account.

Have had the same happen to me and a mate down there as well. Was fishing early morning for bream around this time of year last year and were getting hammered on 8kg and 10kg gear. People have told me there are some really big shovellys in there plus a few noahs. Have managed to land a few small kingies off the rocks, maybe there are some huge ones in there as well. Am hoping to make a trip down there soon when the westerlies really kick in and its a bit safer right out the end. Good luck for your next trip and hope you get to find out what the unstoppables are.
ive hooked a few kingies at the north wall jackash on dead pike and they didnt really go down hard till they seen the boat. i read an article where guys wre having trouble on 2-3 kg rat kings on 30lb braid at the pipeline. but who knows there are some big ooglies in that water
if you put the lighter gear out as well as the heavy stuff , the lighter gear will always go first.Next time try putting a buoy on your anchor and then when you hook up and the fish takes off you can just unclip your anchor and chase after the fish.
Jackash, to keep your herring alive longer you must change the water regularly as they throw their scales and choke on them. There are some good fish on that north wall near the hole . Is that where you were ?

Yeah colonel klink we were doing that but we had had them for a fair while, next time ill take the aerator. And yes i was fishing pretty much near the pipline on the northern wall just out from the green beacon thats near the pipeline sign.

Yeah mate a bit of bread. My grandma lives at BRoad Beach waters on the canals there so jsut berlying up the herring around the jetties and throwing the cast net. Werent many mullet around but when we returned the day after the seaway there were s***loads. Ahhh well next week hopefully.
