I hope we all didn't pay too much attention to the BOM, because today was perfect. Headed out this morning with a mate of mine, Leigh (Colorado) and Crossed the seaway about 5am We had our first baits in the water by 5.20am. Fish were on with Trag coming up quite regularly. Then after about half an hour the baitrunner was screaming and we new a better fish had taken the bait. After a short fight a nice 5.5kg snapper surfaced.
Fish went quite after that so we decided to move to another spot that regularly holds good bait schools. Just like last week, before the pick had even grabbed both of us had solid fish hooked up. Mine went straight to the reef and i could feel him rubbing the line, though the 60lb leader was tuff enough and a nice 4kg snapper came up. Leigh had a much larger fish on and was absolutely getting smoked... Straight into the reef and the game was up. The anchor didn't grab so we moved over the reef again. The pick again hadn't grabbed and i had another solid fish on. Good fight and came a nice 5-5.5kg real knobbie snapper.
Had a good day bagging out on Trag, three solid snapper and also getting a nice Maori cod.
Have just finished eating the Maori cod and it was beautiful.

Thanks for a great morning out Dom. I would hate to think how much damage we could have caused if the anchore had of held on the first try. I would love to of seen the size of the fish that we both lost. Anyway thats fishing.
The Snapper was beautiful on the plate to. Thanks again.
Im just about to start going offshore on the GC tageting snapper, Id appreciate some general info.
How deep/fathoms was it? What did you use for bait? Seems you didnt pickup livies, cause you were at the reef in 20 mins.
Well mate, its hard to say since i was fishing so dam close to ya and i got sfa ??? .. but congrats on the good snapper
You boys sure showed that they are around. Wasnt the conditions (aside from the lack of any current) great.
Well done
Jas
Nice fish Dom, those trags are great to eat fresh but the maori stole the show ay, your producing some nice fish off the goldy, if you can catch them there youd brain em anywhere.

We fish in waters about 35-50 metres deep. Always reef bottom. The marks that we fish generally always hold bait on them, so getting livies is never a problem. We use strip bait, squid and pillies.
Drive east of the seaway and you will find reef everywhere!

Bad luck on the weekend. You will run across some snapper shortly.
Weather was probably the best day on the water i have had this year. But this weekend looks to be shaping up pretty ordinary.
Cheers
