Average catch...
Hey all. Am over in Perth for work, and went out for a fish last night on a local charter. Was hoping to get stuck into some dhu-fish, and had never actually fished in WA before, so I was very keen to get into them. Has also been many years since I deep sea fished, so it was good to get back out there. It's amazing how many little things I had forgotten about it!!!
Anyway, we pretty much just brained Snapper all night! Pretty much every drop resulted in hook ups on snapper (Or Pinkies as they call them in WA). The best bait seemed to be squid, but they also were caught on "Mulies" (Spelling?). Pretty much a Pilchard I think....
So we motored about 1.5 hours straight out of Perth, and proceeded to drift in about 100 metres of water. My first drop, got me this guy (Photo attached). This seemed to be the average size, with a few thumpers also coming on board. One of the other guys did catch a dhu that went to 14.5kgs! (Photo soon). I also caught a few Nanygui (They called them swallow tail nanygui) which are apparently good chewin, but it looked so small next to the knobbies, I threw em all back!
I was using the boat gear, as I didn't bring any of my rods/tackle with me (Wish I had of now!) which consisted of a short 15kg Penn rod with an Alvey boat reel mounted on and mono line the whole way. Not sure what weight line it had, but it was DAMN heavy! Double drop hooks off the main line, with the snapper sinker at the bottom (I think its called a Patonester rig?). Not the best of gear.... Some guys had brought their own tackle. One guy had a brand new Tiagra, mounted on a new TCurve jig rod, with 100kg braid! He absolutely nailed everything that came near his baits! And those Tiagra's are such a beautiful looking reel....
All in all, a great night, with some top fish. Glad to be back out amongst the big fish. The money has come through from the bank, and I have more enthusiasm and incentive now to get the boat fixed, so will be hooking into it very very soon!

Not a bad catch for a charater boat. Some charaters i have been on drift the same ground i fish with my mates and then move on very quickly when i know that if you drift the same patch a little longer than most you hit good fish. They know were the ground is but tend to protect it. Well well done and good luck fixing the boat i am in the middle of fixing one myself $$$$$$.

Crayman - Apparently that was a "standard" trip for them. The skipper told me that the night before had been one of the best trips this year. The money's in the bank account now (Thankyou Mr Commonwealth!), so the boat repairs will be underway very soon
Nigelr - I've got a few more photos, but have been too busy to put any more up. Will resize them all and try to post soon. Funniest thing though... I left my lovely fish with the chef in the hotel I'm staying at, and then he brings it back to me last night, but not quite how I remembered it... (See pic attached). Last time I ever trust a Chef!!!

BadBubby - Not sure Dan. At the moment, just back home for a while I think... Gotta move house, so hopefully no more travel just yet. Am still working on getting back up north!
