    Mud Island snapper on SP

Just back from a weeks holliday at Amity. [smiley=love.gif] to those who missed me

Anyway, pretty windy week. Wednesday 13th went through Rous and Harrys to Mud Is and after about 2 hours of casting had a good hit and powerful run. Managed to land a 5.0 kg snapper on 3 kg pretest mono after about 10 minutes. Caught on a 5" saltwater assasin watermelon on 1/4 oz jighead.

Friday 15th went out through the bar and fished around Pt Lookout and the group. Caught a 1.6 kg snapper (squire) on a halco twisty lure on 1 kg pretest mono. Then went out to boat rock and caught a longtail tuna estimated around 12-15 kg on 8 kg pretest mono on a live bait. Tuna was released. Otherwise it was pretty quiet. Wind came up around 25 knots SW around 9 am so it was very choppy out from the beach.

Both snapper will be club and queensland records for lurecasting

Photos will be posted later this week.

Nice catches Jeremy ...... Did you leave the Snapper gear at home and have to make do with a couple of whiting outfits

    Good onya Jeremy. Well done.

Rob, saw plenty of mac last week round the beacons and at shark spit. Sitting there watching me rod and I heard this hissing noise. Turned round and saw a bait boil about 100 metres across heading straight for the boat. The water was shimmering (I love to see that) and then all hell broke loose. Mac leaping out of the water ripping into 'em not 10 metres from the boat. Never got a chuck at 'em though as they were moving pretty fast and I was at anchor. Strange thing was, there wasn't a gull in sight.

    cheers

    Brian,

I was intending to have a go in the Rainbow channel myself during the week, but there was a bit of floating weed around which put me off and there were very few pike around (and I left the cast net at home)...and too bloody cold for me!! Good luck anyway.

    Mark,

actually I had all 6 rods with me. Was planning to go out the bar and try around the group, but swell was up and I couldn't get out. So off to Mud. Can't cast SPs with the snapper gear anyway!

    Rob,

I spoke to a couple of pros off Pt lookout on Friday - nice blokes which surprised me a bit. They were catching 10 livies to every one of mine! He said they were getting the big winter blues right now and that was where he was headed. The longtail surprised me too, I was so hoping it was going to be a kingie or amberjack.

    Kev,

thanks mate. Big session in the bay there you did. Gotta be keen sleeping out in the bay in your rig!

    Cheers,

    Jeremy

Dominic, thats my first bay 'snapper'. I have only been using the SPs on snapper for about 6 weeks so far - 4 trips total. Seems to be much more productive than bait and tons more exciting. Got me hooked now and more trips are planned soon.
