Went down the Pin yesterday for a SP's session, and scored a nice Flattie early in the day. It's my best one so far went 73cm. Was so thrilled I forgot to weigh it before it was released. Caught another 7 or so little ones but generally pretty quite. A few bream seen getting caught on baits.
Cheers Richo
This year the logan and pin have produced some beaut lizards ...hard to beat my PB - 1.3 m and 11 lb from last year , but we have been getting quite a few up around 80 - 90 cm on the plastics ....especially in around the logan banks
Am I reading your post right, you caught a 1.3m Flathead ???
You might want to check your scales ??? as a fish that size should be up around 20lb. To give you some indication, A couple of years back I got a 89cm Lizard that went 11lb and I know of smaller lengthed fish that have also been around the 5kg mark.
Your Flathead must have looked a bit like a neck Tie but a truely memorable fish all the same. Would really like to see a Photo .
Were using TT brand jig heads, about 1/2 once I think (my jig heads were to small so borrowed a mates). We using the heavier ones to get down deep as we were chasing Jewies, caught the flattie on a ledge in 20 feet of water bouncing it off the bottom. Hope that helps.
JB love your boat, is that a Sea Jay? Yours too Craigie
craigie , sorry mate was heavier then that apparently ... 17lb so my brother tells me ( ...i get confused ...i remember the length)...oops
trolled up on a yellow / pink Tilsan Barra in 2 metres of water around the back of the islands in the logan river ..
it wasn't a flathead , it was a god damn crocodile !
The lure died ....he crunched it up big time , split it almost in half !
Never seen em that big pulled on line before ...seen em down around port maquarie that size and bigger , whilst snorkelling ...
No photo's , that old girl was slid straight back in the water in no time !
running diving minnows right into the mud is a really effective way to get the big buggers ....although you do tend to lures a lot of lures ...we run the minnows right into the thick of the mud and let them churn it up big time .....every lizard i got over a meter has fallen to the same method. ( probably gotten 4 that have tipped the 100cm + mark now ) I haven't tried trolling for em for ages ...sticking with the plastics now . Mainly using gulps on super light tackle ..seem to do the trick . A mate and i got 9 fish in one day a few months ago out of the logan, of which 6 were over 60 cm . not a bad score on 4lb line !!!! That river is so thick with BIG lizards it's rediculous !
