12's SE Seaway
Weather was supposed to be a nice 5 knot breath but left the seaway to find it to be a 10-15 knot slop. Wasnt too bad going and eventualyl got out to spot XYZW at a rate of 15knots. Picked up some nice healthy livies on the way and old mate decided to drop down. Little did I know that he had set his rig up himself and had steel trace on each hook on his paternoster. I was wondering why he wasnt getting bites until he wound up and i told him to cut that Sheet off. First drop for me was a 1.5 metre long reef shark on a fresh dead yakka. Things went way way way too quiet for my liking even though there was a sheetload of fish on the sounder ? Thats fishing for you. Decided to search around but could not find any other ground as good as spot XYZW so back to the spot we went. Old mate pulled up a few little squire under 30cm and I thought that the bite time might be short and we could have missed it already. I swapped from a paternoster rig to a running ball sinker rig with 2 snelled 4/0's and a big osama lumo bead. Floated out a whole pilchard and waited and waited and waited. Then BANG of goes the baitrunner and I click in the drag and I was on. In came the first snapper at around 4kg, 80cm. Then anotherp pilchard was despatched in the exact same method as before and BANG i was on again but this was to a slightly bigger snapped. Fish was gaffed and went 80cm again but this one was a fair bit fatter and wider. My guess was around 5-6kg (rough) will weigh it tomorrow. Bight time was 10am-10:30am and we left at 11:30. These 2 fish are the biggest snapper I have caught on bait but are still a few kilos short of the nobby from 1770 on plastics. Here are some pics for you chemmy

Re: 12's SE Seaway
I dont have much time for the bay any more when I have a better chance of getting snapper like the ones I got today outside. I will however venture in the bay now for bait and to catch that elusive 20kg cobia

Re: 12's SE Seaway
Good onya mate great to see.
I also headed out this morning and wen't to the 24's though I only had a few hours to fish.
We boated a few decent squire a parrot and a leatherjacket and some other chaps that went back...certainly a few feeds there but nowhere near the size you got. I found that the floaters kept getting the squire while the bottombashing paternosters picked up the other reefies. My guess is that the squire and snapps are coming well off the bottom at the moment.
We were back at the ramp by 10am so it looks like we missed your top period (top of the tide).
Plenty of whales around too with broaching & puffing and I even heard one "moan" and then one came by with flipper in the air like a giant wave. great morning out though my deckie went a bit green.

Nice fish there Sean [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
You should be getting into some really big stuff in the coming months in the new rig.
