FLATTIES IN THE TWEED
Me and Steve went down the Tweed for a fish this morning. The conditions were great,no wind bit of tide and not too many boats. We fished with sp's and had some good fun with the flatties. We ended up with 17 between the 2 of us with Steve getting the best fish at 86cm.It looks like with this warmer weather and water temp the big females are already starting to move to the mouth of the river.
Bring on August!

Mullet
A flathead will eat a sp wherever it is mate, they are ambush predators and I dont think that will change from location to location.
We didnt really find one that worked better I was using minnows and Steve was using grubs,we did find the darker colours seem to work better though
Brenno
Yup that is the place.

Re: FLATTIES IN THE TWEED
Nice fish Rod , the tweed certainly holds some of the best and biggest flatty, did you catch him behind Tweed Hospital? or in the lagoon? They seem to Congregate in big numbers behind the hospital when in spawn, have not caught or seen to many at the mouth but thats not to say they are not there.
My last good catch on SP's was near Kero bay .

Steve got him behind the hospital, just took her in there for a quick foto. There was too much tide in the main river to take a nice pic.

Re: FLATTIES IN THE TWEED
Mullet,
flattys love the SPs with the paddle tail like the Squidgy, it stirs up the bottom and attracts them. I prefer pink ones, but change color to suit the day. Naturals colors on clear days, bright colors on overcast days.
The Sps with the twin tails are really for bream.
My biggest flatty 70 cm was caught on a hard body bibbed diving lure in muddy shallow water 3-4 ft.

Re: FLATTIES IN THE TWEED
Thanks for the pointers fishing dan, flickflack and gogecko. Have had some success with sp's but have never really put too much time into them. Fresh bait man myself. Did see a bloke at the tackle shop recently with 4 packets of pink squidies and he didn't look like he was a collector......

Yeah the fish was in excellent condition, very heavy for its size.
Can't wait for next month.
