    Barwons snapper and beakies

    Hello all,

What can I say. My best snapper trip and my partner had to throw a ruddy great sailfish into the capture just to top it off.

It's a bit late but Brooksy and I joined the Banks armada on Friday in his Yalta Craft. Spectre followed us out and we met Streaker on the grounds. Not a bad run with pretty good conditions. Anchored before dawn and burley in the water.

By 6:45 we had reached our limit of snapper - mostly on the floaters - with only one pearl perch being the odd fish out.

Phil (spectre) was on the way out with Craigie and two others on board so we kept fishing for the next 30 mins to they arrived and passed over 4 nice squirey snapper to start off their day.

We moved south to catch up with Wayne and to look for pearlies. Some new ground and the first drift yielded a couple of just legal pearliers and 6 snapper none under 5kg. Once again we call spectre over to help them out. They were struggling with fish in the boat so by the time they arrived we were able to pass on 7 more snapper with Brooksy letting a couple of 4-5kg models swim away.

Wayne headed for the 10 mile while we drifted with Craig and Phil. They were struggling while we got to our limit of 10 pearlies with only one more snapper. We decided to head to the 10 mile as well but stopped at the 18 mile after running over a heap of bait.

Jigs came up fully loaded with big scad and big slimies - one went back down on a circle hook. Bugger me dead if the rod doesn't take off slowly and next thing Brooksy is screaming as a nice sailfish comes leaping out of the water and heads screaming for the horizon.

25 acrobatic minutes later and it's boat side and released after a few happy snaps. What a way to end the day. Thanks Steve - fantastic trip. With Snapper at $15.99 a kilo whole at Morgans it makes you think of the value of your catch.

Things were getting out of control at one stage.

Great pics bugman but I can't help myself here sorry. You only had two in the boat right? The pic shows 14 snapper? I know you wrote that you handed them over to another boat but I would have thought you would do that before getting to the limit as you clearly exceeded your in possesion limit mate.
I know people might bite my head off for saying anything but a few times on this site I've been bagged for keeping a heap of fish yet at no stage did I go over the limit.

    Mark,

I think it was 16 actually. We just waited to the end of our drift run before we handed over the extras. We were fishing side by side and they didn't land a snapper. I don't know why.

Well done Brett. Came over to say g'day but you guys had just put out the parachute so left you to it and tried another couple of ledges nearby. Didnt get onto any big snapper but bagged out on snappery squire, pearlies and trag.

    Great day on the water.

    Cheers

    Greg
