tinnie trip to 1770
Just returned from 8 days camping at 1770 with the little tinnie. Wind blew on average 15-20 kts all the fishing time and coming off the moon fishing was hard.
Had the good fortune to meet with Mr & Mrs Reel Nauti who gave us the heads up about crabs. We ended up with 11 good size( bloody big if they were in NSW) however only 1 buck was caught kept and cooked the day after Sue dragged Dave home.
Fish, we started slow with small bream and a few very keen jacks on SPs and after some info gained in a funny way we caught good size flathead and was terrorised by we still dont know what as we didnt land one after 5 days trying.
The story around the info we have to share,
I was sitting doing gods work about 6.00am in the little room when this voice from the next cubicle says " hows the fishing big fella" I replied after some thought that it was slow then the voice said " talk to the young bloke at the marina about live herring and use them where you have been fishing, making sure you get them in as close to the timber you can, the water is deep right up to the bank" a flushing sound followed and I never got to see or meet who belonged to the voice.
We caught the herring and sure enough just about every bait produced something.Best times seem to be 1 hr before and after the tide. The best flathead on the bottom of the tide and whatever was dusting us up on 30 braid on the top of the tide. The channel runs west for those guys going up to the M & G not the main one.
We only kept 2 flathead per day for dinner and when you consider we fished out of the dinghy (3.55 Sea Jay Barra Punt) we had just as good a time as if we had taken the big boat.
Top spot you guys have picked for the M & G trust you have as good a time as us.
We will be back
Wally
